Now I love a skinny lady, no problems with them at all.

I know I am going to be massive though with this pg because it happened last time - I put on nearly 5 stone then only managed to lose 3 and 1/2 before getting pg again. I started at 13st.

All you girls starting at 7st 10 or moaning about being 23 weeks and having put on a massive 1 stone already should be counting your lucky tiny stars.

A thread for those who are larger, and those who have nice warming stories of gaining loads of weight in pregnancy - waddle over this way, ladies, put up a (big sturdy) chair and have another biscuit!

Yay, good thread :) I'm a larger lady, BMI of 39, am 5 foot, can't remember my weight, am sure I should be able to reverse engineer it from those two numbers but haven't figured out how yet!

I am 16+2 with my first DC, quite nervous and down as increasing risk due to my BMI, Dad's diabetes and my age(!) I am only 30 but apparently that is old... I have a glucose tolerance test tomorrow to look forward to...

Looking forward to those nice warming stories to make me feel better!

TorcherQueenie · 03/03/2011 18:36

I'm not pregnant but have a large pregnancy story to share Smile Got pregnant with DD at a size 16-18 by the time I was 9 months I was a size 24-26 and was asked by a retired midwife if I was having triplets when I said No the response was 'Twins?' again No she refused to belive me Grin DD was 10lb 4oz at birth. I deflated massively.

schmee · 03/03/2011 18:38

I'm pregnant and on the larger side. Last time it was twins so there was a reason I piled on the pounds in the first trimester. This time round I put on even more despite horrible morning sickness so thought it must be triplets. It's just the one...

MrsBakerNeeld · 03/03/2011 19:06

I'm currently 10+2 with first DC, 24 yrs old and a BMI of 39 so was thrilled to see this thread. I recently lost two stone just prior to falling pregnant so I'm rather nervous of gaining everything back but it's all for a wonderful cause.

nervatious · 03/03/2011 19:39

Yes definitely a wonderful cause MrsB! Thanks Torcher for your share, 10lb 4oz wow!

I read lots online with dc1 about how you are not supposed to put on any weight til you were 20 weeks. By 20 weeks I had put on 30lbs... am currently only 6+2 and already don't fit in my fat jeans (gulp)

However I also read that larger ladies don't put on weight as much as smaller ones - not true for me but true for a larger friend of mine.

I am resolved to eat less during this pregnancy, but it's sooo hard I am just starving the whole time...

Good luck for tomorrow Bryher I am 33 so must be ancient!

How far gone are you schmee? that sickness gone yet?

Vicky0316 · 03/03/2011 19:43

I'm only 9 weeks pregnant, age 33 and a curvy size 20 lady... so god knows how big I'll be getting as the weeks go on, it does make me pretty nervous to think of where to get maternity clothes from for my size as there really aren't that many options out there!

schmee · 03/03/2011 20:19

Oh lord - I'm ancient if 30 is old. I'm 22 weeks pregnant now and the sickness has gone - yay! To be replaced by creaking joints and an inability to move at any speed of course...

nervatious · 03/03/2011 21:25

aw poor joints! I have a bad back left over from ds1 but am starting pilates next week - they say to wear a close-fitting long sleeved top and leggings eek!

I will put self-conscious feelings aside, after all no-one's looking at my big bum really are they(in the huge mirrors)?

I am hoping - fingers crossed - that my old maternity stuff fits when i get to that point even though i started out much bigger this time. Will see how it goes...

Right at the end of my pg I was wearing basically a sarong sewn up the sides with a head hole in it as a top, very flattering (not)

hiya all, i am 30, 18+3 with my second and was a 18-20. i have put on around 7 pounds so far but my belly is so much bigger than it was!

i have got to have a glucose tolerance test too at about 25 weeks. oh joy.

i was quite suprised my midwife didnt say anything about my weight, and aparently i dont get weighed again untill 30 odd weeks, so they cant be too worried about it!

weddingseason · 03/03/2011 22:15

Me me me - I actually posted about this a few days ago. 5'3 and weigh nearly 13 stone. Was 11 stone when I got pregnant with my first, 12 with my second and now 13.

Am determined to try not to gain my usual 3 stone this time round and to eat healthily etc. but would welcome support/advice from this thread.

Am already nervous that they won't be able to see anything through the layers of fat at my 12 week scan!

lizandlulu · 04/03/2011 10:19

i thought that too weddingseason! i actually said to the sonographer that i was amazed that they could find anything under all of that fat as i carry lot of weight on my bellyGrin she said it does affect the picture quite alot, as in not as clear in larger ladies, but it wasnt really a problem. andi was 15 and a half stone at my 12 week scan so you have nothing to worry aboutSmile, when is oyur scan?

weddingseason · 04/03/2011 11:05

Don't have a date for my scan yet as am only 7 weeks so who knows, maybe if I walk loads I'll miraculously be a size 6 by the - as if! It's reassuring that you've only gained 7 pounds so far. Has that been a conscious effort or just luck?!

Ironically with the others I was sick from the moment of conception so actually lost weight in the first trimester. This time I'm much better which although good does mean that eating isn't a problem.

nervatious · 04/03/2011 13:06

Hi weddingseason! Sorry I didn't look very hard for similar posts before posting. I am also hoping to do loads of walking and lose weight/stay the same throughout but it's very hard

Something I was wondering about was whether it affects the measuring of the bump? You know when they measure you and then say how big the baby is...how can that be accurate with my belly compared to one with no padding?

Ohhhhhh thank you for this thread!

I'm not even going to say how old i am, LOL, but i am 8 weeks preg, and untill 3 weeks ago i was loosing weight on a crash diet. I'd got to a nice 14 and falling. NOW i'm squidgy and i feel and look like 16/18.

SO happy to be expecting -

But not happy about my shape already.

PLUS partner and i have just been invited to an award ceremony at the guild hall in London, and i have to wear a dress. Hmm All my dresses are clingy ( happy purchases as i got slimmer) and i've just had a trying on session upstairs and i look yuck in all of them.

Sigh ...... I'm changing my nickname to 'lumpy legs' i think ....

lizandlulu · 04/03/2011 13:29

weddingseason it is a little bit of both really, i felt that roung for the first 10-11 weeks that i didnt really eat very much and craved fruit! the weight i have put on is only recent as i am feeling so much better and eating what the hell i likeGrin

nervatious they only measure you like that from 25 weeks i think, at which point your bump pushes all the fat out the way (i hope) Grin

greenzebra · 04/03/2011 14:20

I was 13 stone when I first got pregnant Im 28 weeks at the moment. Im 5 foot 3 and have a high BMI at 34, the first ultrasound was so painful where she had to dig in to get a good picture, also doestn help I Have fibroids. So just went to my midwife appointment this morning and Im measuring really big for 28 weeks, but she said I had a very neat bump and the baby seamed very compact. Dont know what to make of it really, am I measuring more because Im fat? Or lots of fluid? Or lots of fibroids? Or really big baby. I think its the fibroids and I dont think I have put on too much weight as I can fit in to some old clothes, it mainly seams to be my boobs and the bump that are massive. Have to see in the next few weeks what happens.

Though on the plus side for my husband hes loving the bigger boobs!

Guildenstern · 04/03/2011 14:24

I was(and am!) a large women when pregnant with both my kids.

I put on under 1.5 stones with each of them and within a fortnight was back at pre-baby weight. I think there is a lot of truth to the idea that bigger women don't put on as much.

If only the pre-baby weight had been something sensible I'd have no problems!

MrsBakerNeeld · 04/03/2011 19:28

mistyO, I know how you feel. Had dropped to a 14 previously and at 10+3 I'm feeling more of a pudgy 16/18 but enjoy the experience I say! Your body is more beautiful than ever before because it's doing the most feminine and wonderful thing any body can, remember that!

On the clothes front, maxi style dresses from last summer are still looking pretty good for me so maybe try that style? Plus, ggreat for giganto boobs!

Btw, I'm ordering chinese haha.
