Hi there,

Had a scan the other day, as I'm apparently carrying a 'large' baby...

She was complete breech at the time, just wondered how common is this presentation at this stage of gestation and what percentage of babies manage to turn around in time without aid??
Consultant has arranged an appointment at 36 weeks to check her position then.

Bearing in mind she is large and my mid-drift is very petite- only 5'3'..

Ta!

Hi Leila I was just about to post something similar.

Just had my 32 week midwife appointment and found out that my LO is breech too. He is not 'large' though as far as I know. But I am only 5ft 4 and quite small/short in the body so was also wondering about the likelihood of him turning.

Hope you don't mind if I hang out to see the responses you get!

mine was breach as 20 weeks, 34 weeks and 36 weeks.

Refused a ECV and was booked for an ELCS at 39 weeks. Had my pre-op appointment 2 days before and still breech. On operating table just about to have epidural and a quick scan revealed she had turned overnight! Told to get dressed and go home!!

DD was 8lb 5oz and still found the room to turn so there is always hope!

Mine was.

She may have turned, but unfortunately I went into labour at 36 weeks when she was still in a sitting position, so she came out the window.

Actually, it was fine. Just one of those things. I worried about it during the weeks before the birth (I sussed she was breech fairly early on) but once she was out, the whole birth thing became very unimportant. She was born healthy, I recovered well and we got stuck into the business of learning our new life together.

It's not the end of the world, honest. Smile

Hersetta wow that's a story! You poor thing- to get all geared up for meeting your baby, only to be told to go home!!??

InmaculadaConcepcion- Sounds like all was fine in the end, 36 weeks- that's quite early, were there any contributing factors to going in to labour at that time, or was it just a complete surprise?

At my previous antenatal appointments baby hasn't been breech before (always head down), so maybe she will turn before her due date.

Mine was transverse to 28+, breech at 32 and turned just before the scan a few days later. I do worry it's still oscillating but there's apparently room to turn all the way to the end and I'm 5ft6 with a BIG, long baby.

Yep, it was the most disappointing experience of my life.

Worst thing was I then had a very long latent labout (6 days with contractions varying between every 6 mins and every 2 mins) which ended in an EMCS 8 days after my ELCS was booked. Apart from a beautiful and healthy DD it was not the best of weeks!

Mine was breach at that stage too,he was back to my back also,MW did start with the Csection CONVERSATION, Wich i didnt even bother listening as i know and have friend who had 3normal births all 3 babies were breach. But mine did turn the right way ,I was induced as i was 14 days late, and heart beats were going down and he was getting tired,Had a very calm birth for a petit woman, no stiches, and slept 3 hour through the labour, had epidural.

8 pounds baby boy.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 02/03/2011 20:42

Leila, I blame the raspberry leaf tea Grin

Otherwise, no - I think I just spontaneously went into labour a bit early, there was no apparent reason for it. I was perfectly healthy etc. and so was DD.

She was quite small when born - 5lb 1oz - but despite that and her prematurity, she didn't need any special care.

Loads of babies turn in time - many at the very last minute.

But there are exercises you can do to encourage them.

Check out this website for details.

Good luck!

Mine isn't breech at 32 weeks, but the midwife said yesterday they didn't worry about it this early anyway as there is still plenty of time for the baby to turn either way. She said babies can turn at any point and that she knows of one who turned during labour though that is unusual.

Leilababyno1 · 03/03/2011 19:39

Thank's all- done a bit of research and it seems that around 15% of babies are breech at 32 weeks- so not THAT common, but seeing that by 40 weeks 10% of those will have turned head down, it should be all good..Smile

Consultant is seeing me at 36 weeks to be sure anyhow, so no worries.
