eg.

Carrying high (girl) /low (boy)

Craving sweet things (girl)
Craving savoury things/meat (boy)

And indeed, any others?

With DD I didn't have cravings exactly, but I remember having a bit more of a sweet tooth through pregnancy than usual.

OR

If you've had one or more of each, were there any noticeable differences in your pregnancies which you suspected may have been linked to the sex of your baby?

Intrigued... Smile I thought a straw poll would be interesting...

Dunno what happened with bold there, sorry.

kingbeat23 · 02/03/2011 15:52

the only thing I now believe in is the hairy thing - had horrendous heartburn all the way through and gave birth to a monkey girl.

DSis has 3 DCs DS1 and DD horrific heartburn - monkey children, DS2 - no heartburn, no hair.

Can't tell with the bump thing in our family as we have a "magic" weight of putting on 4 1/2 stone during pregnancy, no matter if we watch our weight or not. DM, DSis and myself all put on this weight.

Had 3 MWs and XP saying it was a boy, DM and other MW saying girl...whilst pushing...remember having a surreal out of mind experiene whilst pushing, thinking, is this conversation really happening or is it me?

Carameli · 02/03/2011 16:22

with no1 everyone, even in shops told me I was going to have a boy, All the old wives tests etc etc and like some others here on the actual day I got the shock of my life when I heard them say 'She's here :)'

No 2 & 3 both boys, I had morning sickness for all of them and terrible heartburn but was worse with the boys, not sure if that is what they say it should be though.

melikalikimaka · 02/03/2011 16:39

Hardly any morning sickness, except when brushing teeth, that means boys, that was right.

mayanna123 · 02/03/2011 16:49

"Chinese gender chart was right for 3 out of four of my ds's. It now says I'm having a girl but I promise you all, I will run naked around the Phoenix Park if this is a girl."

But the probability of you having another boy after 3 already is really very small, so it is much more likely to be a girl, statistically at least.

TrillianAstra · 02/03/2011 16:52

"But the probability of you having another boy after 3 already is really very small"

Probability of you having a boy after 3 boys is actually slightly higher than of having a girl (if same father), but still practically 50/50.

With dd I had nausea all day every day for about 12 weeks. with ds none apart from very rare waves of nausea. Noticed with ds the brightly coloured urine thing Blush put on more weight too but he was a bigger baby.

IWillCountToThree · 02/03/2011 17:18

DD1: Sour sweets and Cheese & Onion everything, no nausea, all in front.
DD2: Savoury food, no nausea, carried everywhere!
DS: Meat, no appetite, nausea, didn't really look pg (he was tucked under my ribcage!)

Onkly person that got the prediction right was my Thai friend. She's been right for all friends pregnancies so far, but got her own wrong. :o

chipmonkey · 02/03/2011 17:28

heartburn = hairy baby was the only one that worked here, actually. Ds4 had a full head of hair when newborn. Think there might be a pic on my profile.

Mumlar · 02/03/2011 17:42

Have had three, one DS and two DDs. Craved Haribo Sour Mix with both my girls-disgusting! Strangely with both my DD's the hair growth on my legs slowed down. A bit of a bonus really as I couldn't reach to shave them. Was very sick with all three, but well into the second trimester with the girlies. Bump didn't change with any of them, huge and all at the front with all three. All gorgeous though.

CheerfulYank · 02/03/2011 18:22

I just asked my Dad. He's sucessfully predicted something like 17 family pregnancies now...that man has The Shine, I tell you!

matana · 02/03/2011 19:24

Yes on pretty much all counts:

No morning sickness.
Neat little bump out front (i'm no size 0!)
Loved savoury things.
Heartburn like hell.
Chinese predicter chart correct.
Thick hair.
Clear skin.

= boy

mewkins · 02/03/2011 20:00

Everyone, me included, was convinced it was a boy - to such an extent that we hardly discussed girls names. When DD was born we were stunned! Only my mum had suspected a girl and had even bought girlie babygros Shock

InmaculadaConcepcion · 02/03/2011 20:06

My FIL has a theory that if you conceive after - ahem - doing it "from behind", you're more likely to have a girl.

I have a feeling he was right about that with DD Grin

regeneration · 02/03/2011 20:11

With DS I put on weight everywhere, I was MASSIVE. Craved strawberry cheesecake icecream and Kettle slightly salted crisps.

Awful heartburn, pain in hips from 30 weeks, carried in the middle, bum poking out by me bully button for the last 4 weeks.

Didn't know until he was born, midwife had no idea, and the scans couldn't see anything definative.

?????

tilder · 02/03/2011 20:17

My lovely lovely madwife always predicts the sex of the baby. She originally told me that she goes off the speed of the heart beat (can remember now but below a certain beats per minute means one, above means another) and predicted a boy both times.

She was right both times - but she did tell me that her success rate is 50% Grin

BabyGiraffes · 02/03/2011 20:19

Totally off sweet things with dd1 and totally craving sweet things with dd2. Sorry, no help Grin

pippylongstockings · 02/03/2011 21:29

The chinese prediction calander was also right on both of mine.

And I would like to add it was correct on both my sisters and my best friends - spooky?!

fadingfast · 02/03/2011 21:50

I had pretty bad morning sickness with DS but it was FAR worse with DD - more severe and lasted longer. From friends' experiences I think the level of morning sickness is as reliable as anything. Bump shape, hair, skin etc the same both times.

emiwo · 02/03/2011 21:59

carrying all out front.
sick sick sick sick for the whole pregnancy. to the extent of being on a drip.
Fab hair.

Had a Boy..

duchesse · 02/03/2011 22:42

None of these but these things happened:

pregnancy 1) I dreamt about my baby aged about 2. I still have a very powerful memory of the baby's features and demeanour, and he was a boy. Pregnancy 1 was indeed a boy and he turned out to look very like my dream although a lot fairer

Pregnancy 2) I dreamt a few weeks before the baby that she would be a little girl with slightly sticky out ears. She was a little girl with sticky out ears!

Pregnancy 3) I was told throughout my pregnancy that something was wrong with my baby, that it wasn't growing properly and was threatened with induction from 32 weeks. I knew that the baby was a girl and that she was fine and resisted all intervention. She was a girl and she was fine.

Pregnancy 4) I knew beyond any doubt from the beginning of the pregnancy that I would have trouble delivering (despite never having had any in any of the previous 3). I didn't know how or why but just had a strong feeling that all would not go well. The pregnancy was a dream, very easy and straightforward, and went utterly tits up in the last 4 days. At the C section needed to save her life (and possibly mine too- we were both infected by then) it was discovered that she was so extremely tangled in her cord that she would never have made it out through nature's route. I got her sex wrong though- was convinced throughout she was a boy. Only in the last week did I even consider the baby might be a girl.

babybythesea · 02/03/2011 23:22

Hmm, well I crave sweet things most of the time so am probably permanently pregnant with a girl!
I did indeed crave sweet things while pregnant with dd but no more than usual. And macaroni cheese.
And the midwife told me that I was going to have a girl after hearing a slightly faster than normal heartbeat. Although she did then grin and say she had a 50% chance of being right. (Apparently boys heartbeats tend to be a bit slower).

chipmonkey · 03/03/2011 00:04

When pg with ds3 I had a dream that I had a tiny little boy. Ds3 was 8 weeks prem.

Janoschi · 03/03/2011 00:08

With this pregnancy (29 weeks) I felt very strongly from really early on that it would be a girl. I also craved sweet things and fruit when normally I'm a savoury type, but I learned this tale fairly late along. On my 20 wk scan my baby had it's knees firmly shut so there was no way to tell. I had 2 other scans because of bleeding and the baby still refused to reveal anything. Today I had another scan (damn bleeding) and finally I found out we're have a girl.

Oddly enough, I felt really strongly that my first pregnancy was a boy, but I m/c at 9 weeks and never knew for sure....

SchrodingersCatFliesToOz · 03/03/2011 06:17

No heartburn, 2 hairy monkeys.

For DD1 I was convinced I was having a boy, everybody thought otherwise they were right.

For DD2 everybody told me I was having a boy. I knew better, I had the amnio. results Grin 100% reliable.

There was a predictor which used all the midwife/old wife's tales, and give you a %. (they were right for DD2).

Will try to find the link.
