I'm having my 12 week scan on Thursday and they will also do the blood test screening thingy to calculate my risk etc. Does anyone know how long this takes to come back, I can't remember from last time? Thanks :)

I had my 12 wk scan on Monday, and was told it could take anywhere between 2-3 weeks....which at the moment, feels like ages!

MainlyMaynie · 01/03/2011 20:35

I was told 2 weeks, but it actually only took 3 days!

nannyl · 01/03/2011 20:42

I had mine yesturday and they said just over a week

HaveToWearHeels · 01/03/2011 20:43

I was told 2-3 weeks, only took about a week.

vallinnapod · 01/03/2011 20:45

Depends on the hospital I guess. Mine were back by the end of my scan!! (UCH)

haribofan · 01/03/2011 20:46

Oh no! That's longer than I had hoped. I don't really want to share our news until I have the blood results too. 3 days is good though. I know that my friend had hers back after a day last Summer and she was given a 1 in 28 risk. So maybe non immediate news is good news.

That's amazing vallinnapod. Sadly we're not at UCH!

wow vallinapod.... they must have analysed your blood samples super fast!

vallinnapod · 01/03/2011 21:44

Maybe it just depends if there is lab on site? So the bigger, teaching hospitals have quicker turnaround times?

doodledee · 01/03/2011 22:19

Told up to 2 weeks and it was - to the day

youngblowfish · 01/03/2011 22:30

Mine took 4 weeks to come through - but it was in December, so the festive period got in the way. Big, teaching hospital with a lab on site (albeit in South London).

A doctor told me that if you are low risk, they do not get back to you as a matter of priority and you just get the routine test results back in the post once they are processed by the bureaucratic machine. If there is cause for concern, however, they are likely to contact you very soon after your tests and would probably call.

Hope everything will turn out well!

FeralGirlCambs · 02/03/2011 10:05

I was told I'd hear in 2 days if any cause for concern and up to 10 if none - got the letter saying no problem after 3 days but had assumed after 2 all was ok. Actually the sonographer basically said she was 'very happy' with what she saw at the scan (nuchal measurement and nasal bone) so I was not too worried about the bloods as I thought she would not have said that without being pretty sure. Do ask when they take the blood as every hospital must be different. Anecdotally, no news after 2 days is good news as I think if there's an issue they deal with it very promptly.

JBrd · 02/03/2011 10:50

I had my scan on a Thursday, and got the letter with the blood test results and risk calculations on the Tuesday after. I guess it really depends on your hospital, can you ask?

jazz412 · 02/03/2011 10:54

I had my scan last Friday - they didn't take any blood??!!?!

nannyl · 02/03/2011 11:02

But did you have an NT scan jazz?

some areas you only get it if over 35 or if you choose to have it

jazz412 · 02/03/2011 11:33

Oh, I have no idea... LOL
I didn't even know their were different types of scans (apart from the posh 3d ones!)

So I'm not over 35 and didn't get an option for different scans so perhaps I just had a bog standard one?
Not so worried now! Ta!

FeralGirlCambs · 02/03/2011 11:38

Hi Jazz - just put up this link for another poster - this is what people mean by NT Here

jazz412 · 02/03/2011 11:46

well they measured things but I'm pretty sure they said nothing about testing for downs. Should I have it done? Oh I guess I can't now as I'm 13.5 weeks...

nannyl · 02/03/2011 11:51

its only a test that tests for the risk of downs.

some areas only do it for people age 35 or over

where i am, anyone can have it, they measure the fluid at back of neck and then do a blood test. the combined result of measurement and blood test give a score for the chance of having downs.

where i live, you can only have an amniocentisis IF you have had the NT, and it gives a risk of 1 in 100 or more.
