Hello :)

I am 9 weeks pregnant and last week I had a small bit of brown, snot-like discharge when I wiped. I wasn't overly worried as it was brown and just this once.

But last night after wiping I had the same thing but it was a little more pinky/brown. Again, just when I wiped. Nothing afterwards or during the night.

This morning I have a little yellow/brown discharge which I think smells a little unsavoury.

I had some swabs done last week and there was no sign of infection. I have previously had two miscarriages so I fully expect this to fail now. But my questions are: I am A- blood group, do I need an anti-d after this spotting or does it not class as spotting enough to warrant an anti-d? And should I be worried?

I had my booking in appointment with my MW yesterday and I have my first scan and booking at hospital on Thursday. Should I wait to mention it then?

Thanks for reading and for any replies :)

No, please vent away as much as you need. The way I see it is the less people you tell, the less people you have to un-tell when/if it goes wrong.

The magic 3 mcs is awful, as if 1 or 2 wasn't bad enough.

Even though you aren't a recurrent mc-er and you are pregnant now, feel free to pop over and have a look at the recurrent thread, I'll link you to it if you can't find it. There are now four whole threads full of advice and musings and sadness at mcs and how unfair they are, but also tales of hope and joy, treatment and babies. Feel free to read as much as you like and take as much info from it as you like, even if you don't post.

MN is a fab place, on the whole, and without it I wouldn't be where I am today.

Hi all! Had the same horrible discharge and just been diagnosed with a UTI! Amoxycillin X 3 daily, sample being sent for further tests and need to ring back Monday for results. Until I read your discussion, I was worried, so thank you! GP worked out I was 5/6 wks pg 3 weeks ago but last Thursday had a scan and hosp told me I was 5/6 weeks!!??? They said they could see the fetal sac but that was it. Is that normal at this stage?? Obviously thinking all sorts of things and age against me as 42! xx

It is possible you ovulated late and the egg may not have been fertilised immediately. Sperm can live in your womb for about 5-7 days I think. There is huge room for error at this stage. The measurements are so tiny at this stage the sonographers can easily get it wrong by even 1mm. Many hospitals don't scan until 7 weeks at least, for this very reason. I had a scan at 7+2 and saw a heartbeat, but I expect if I'd gone a week earlier there would have appeared to be nothing in there. A sac is good :) Are they re scanning you Leese?

Sex in pregnancy is generally very safe, but your cervix does tend to be more tender and can bleed a little, it wont harm the pregnancy but can be frightening and orgasm can cause braxton hicks type contractions, but unless you have other pregnancy issues then sex should be fine.
Check with your midwife if you are worried?
(I have had thick yellowish/brown tinged mucous after sex too)

Hi, just jointed this website and noticed this post. I am also 5+ weeks with a mc just last Sept. I have also had the same kind of brownish 'stuff' at time to time but no spotting. Have been worried, but just taking one day at a time and hoping for the best.

dickiebird · 06/03/2011 15:33

I have been having dark brown discharge, probably old blood for about a week now. Wasn't too worried to begin with but getting more worried especially as I dont have loads of sickness etc. DP has been away all week and is back this afternoon, thinking of dragging him to A&E to see if they will scan me???

dickiebird · 06/03/2011 15:33

Should have said I'm 7+2!

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 06/03/2011 16:16

I'm not sure I would go to A&E to see if they will scan you. I ended up in A&E for a different reason (I have hyperemesis) at 7+2 and it took them 5 hours to even take water sample so if you're feeling apprehensive it probably isn't the best route to go down. If it isn't bright red and fresh they won't be overly concerned.

The best thing to do is see your GP, and ask to be referred to your local EPU (which is where A&E would send you) but you'd get a designated appointment instead of waiting in corridors IYSWIM or your local MW can refer you if you have had your booking in already.

But obviously if you are really worried then by all means ignore me and get to A&E.

Thanks ALBOC. I think just winding myself up as been on my own all week with no one to talk to and website of maternity unit says go to A&E when EPU not open (ie evenings and weekends). Havent had my booking in yet, hoping to get my appt sent through this week as my GP referred me beginning of last week.

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 06/03/2011 17:59

If you really are worried then get to A&E. They won't turn you away. Only thing is at this time of night, you'll prob not get scanned tonight. In my hospital, they only scan 9-5, so I was admitted to be scanned the next day.

it is hard when you have time to think about things you send yourself potty!

Is the appointment you are awaiting for the hospital booking in or the local booking in?

No sure, 1st appointment? Think I will ring my GP tomorrow and see what she says. Just passed a nasty black clot thing...sorry TMI

Leese69 · 07/03/2011 00:02

Hi lovelybunchofcoconuts - sorry for not replying sooner - have boisterous 18mth old and hubby working away - hello exhaustion!! Yes, I am being re-scanned 23rd but have had slight bleeding today so am going to ask GP what next step is. Have cramps too, am not holding out much hope -have been really grumpy today too Sad. Thanks for your reply Smile.

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 07/03/2011 11:21

Dickiebird - if you have passed a big clot then get yourself to A&E this morning. Don't bother with the GP.

Leese - What is your bleeding like? Don't pin everything on cramps. I have had cramps l;ike period pains for pretty much the whole last 10 weeks. My GP told me the raised progesterone causes fast stretching of the ligaments which will present as cramping. I was told to only worry if it was concentrated on one side. Come back and tell me waht your GP says.

I have my fingers crossed for you all xx
