Are there preventatives to miscarrying?

This may be a naive question...

Being newly pregnant, of course i've started thinking about what awful things could happen etc.

Are there any suggestions to help prevent miscarrying, almost pregnancy guidelines like napping or things? Hmm

Hi Apples82, there are LOADS of guidelines, tips, advice, old wives-tales, superstitions etc etc. It is probably worth reading a decent pregnancy book, or reading around on Mumsnet.

But at the end of the day, we can't control everything that happens. Some women miscarry but most women don't.

I personally suggest looking after yourself and keeping an optimistic outlook - but also accepting that miscarriage is a natural part of the birthing process and is not the woman's fault.

Having said that, you are basically unlikely to miscarry. So try to sit back and enjoy :)

Thanks PipPipPip, I don't wanna be a freak about it, and i'm not necessarily worried about it, I just didn't know if there are things I can do to help it not happen? Confused

nhs guidelines

20% or higher end in miscarriage, and the VAST majority of times there is nothing anyone can do to prevent it happening-for example chromosomal problems that we can not influence.

Try to relax, eat well, look after yourself, and if you are in a high risk work environment, get an assessment done or read up on the risks. For example, in my line of work I used drugs that cause abortion/miscarriage so I had to avoid them or take lots of care.

If it happens, it is NOT your fault and also not necessarily the start of problems- I had 2 healthy pregnancies and 2 miscarriages.

Congratulations on your pregnancy-enjoy it, beware of the problems but not let them ruin the experience for you :)

avoiding cigarettes and alchohol may help prevent it

but sometimes it just happened anyway without an real reason Sad

most 1st trimester miscarriages are due to chromosomal abnormalities.... relax, eat well, avoid heavy lifting, saunas, alchohol, drugs, etc. good luck!
