Heartburn TABLETS - Safe?

Things like the gavilast etc that you just swallow, no chewing etc... can you take them during pregnancy?

Anything chalky makes me sick (so the sweets are out, even the chewy ones), and I'm sick with the liquids too.

I've got a pregnancy milk allergy, so can't drink gallons of that to stop it, so the pills are the last desperate hope.

Don't know about gavilast. But I got ranitidine from my GP both times. She'd taken them.
Frickin' marvellous.

I can most certainly 2nd that Frickin' marvellous !!!!, ranitadine were my saviour. Very old remedy my gp said. How amazing to sleep and eat and not feel that awful awful sicky reflux feeling.

flamebat · 19/10/2005 10:11

Ok, never heard of that... is it a prescription job, or get it over the counter?

Gaviscon makers do a ranitadine over counter pill yes, but also can get it as a prescription. Not sure how much over counter pack is , probably cheaper than £6 prescrption , but I dont know how many I had in m packs to compare.

Thanks for starting this FB - I'm just preparing myself for the heartburn to start with this pg - apparently it's because my babies are so hairy lol I didn't realise there was anything you could take for it but will def try this out

sweetheart · 19/10/2005 10:16

Look at the back of the packet - but I'm fairly sure most of the tablets are out.

Have you tried eating Almonds - they get rid of heartburn brilliantly.

melsy · 19/10/2005 10:16

ooops now youve heard that 3 times.

flamebat · 19/10/2005 10:17

I've got a midwife appointment on Friday, so will see what she says about me being able to get them on prescription (no problem with the prescription money during preg )

Sorry flame - gavilast are a no-no (checked them out with my GP last year).

I used foxes licorice and aniseed sweets last time, which seemed to help, so might be worth a go to see if they work for you.

Gaviscon Cool tablets are good as well. I'm getting through about 10 a day at the moment. And they taste nice.
