Cervical erosion in early pregnancy

Hi, I'm currently 7 weeks pregnant, this is my first pregnancy. Yesterday I had my second scan due to bleeding, it showed the baby had grown from 5 weeks to 7 weeks in just under two weeks and the heartbeat was good. I also had a speculum exam, which showed some cervical 'grazing'. They explained that this meant cells around the opening of the cervix become engorged because of the pregnancy hormone and for want of a better description 'hang out' of the cervix. These can basically burst and cause bleeds. I originally went in for brown spotting which was actually implantation bleeding. But when I got some red bleeding dripping in the toilet a couple days ago i panicked. They will still never say 100% that nothing will go wrong but everything seems ok development wise for now. I get this bleeding at the moment maybe once or twice a day, today I was holding my 5 month old niece who is a chunky size and I think that contributed. (heavy lifting, but very cute!) They did say by the second trimester it should stop as the hormones come from the placenta by then and the other cervical cells will go back to normal. I await the next month with hope and trepidation. If anyone else has had this please let me know what you think?

Hi there,

I had pretty much the same from 6-8 weeks: brown spotting and red wiping and even heavier red bleeding on pants etc. It stopped at about 8 weeks after I rested for 3 or 4 days. I never went to the hospital - mainly because this is my 3rd pregnancy although I have never bled before.

I had a huge bleed after sex at about 13weeks, but since then have had no bleeding at all (now 16w) - or sex as OH is away.

I am sure you are fine. I asked my consultant about the bleeding but he seemed to think it's just one of those things!

I have a 2 and 4 yr old and I carried them once or twice a week and the bleeding doesn't happen when I do that.

I had cervical erosion in pregnancy which started around 15 weeks then on and off til around 22 weeks. [Happened after bowel movements!]. I was freaked out until speculum exam diagnosis. I was reassured that absolutely not a risk to the pregnancy. I always found something to worry about though and was relieved when bleeding stopped. Everyone said that it was a non sinister cause of bleeding though so try not to worry. Had a straight forward pregnancy and bouncy boy at end of it. Try and relax now!

Thanks for your replies, I'm hoping it will give over in the next few weeks! I am trying to keep calm now when it happens, although that sight if blood always alarms me a little. I think these are possibly the longest 12 weeks I will ever have to endure! Will hopefully be able to come back on here by my 12 weeks scan and say all is still well! X

I think I've had the same as you - had some pale brown spotting/mucus about a week ago then on Friday night had pale pink when wiping (after diarrohea a couple of hours before).

I've had nothing else, no red blood and no pain so I'm hoping it's nothing sinister. I have my first MW appt on Wednesday (am 7w today) so will talk to her about it then but feeling reassured by your post that it sounds like the same thing - hope you're OK now and good luck for the scan in a few weeks.

Apparently its fairly common, all the pregnancy hormones affecting the cervix, though yours is probably just the implantation bleeding which is generally just brown or light pink. But yes definitely tell your midwife everything anyway. Today has been better only some light bleeding with bowel movements. I think because i had a speculum exam and some swabs this disrupts the cells some more, but feel better knowing what it is! I've had two scans so feel quite lucky to have seen the progress, but too many scans isn't good so happy to wait till the end of march now. Am sure everything is just fine and looks like we are almost identical timing? I was 7 weeks on friday! Good luck with all, hopefully we will be whinging about feeling like whales soon enough and birth plans!

Unfortunately yesterday i had a miscarriage. Last week i started with bad lower back pain, which subsided, and i went to the doctors, he checked me out said i was fine. At 10 weeks i lost my baby, and now its back to the beginning again after all the anguish and time waiting for the 12 week scan. In my second scan the midwife noted that the fetal sac was a bit on the small side, but said it was an anomally and something to 'bear in mind', yesterday when they told me i had indeed passed the whole fetus and i mentioned it to the midwife, she said yes it was a bad sign. I am writing this because i think people should be prepared. I feel completely devastated and can't believe i have to now go back to the beginning and try again, one of the worst feelings in my life.

i feel you should re-post this thread, filmfanatic, for a bit more support.

I don't think many ladies have responded because your thread title doesn't hint at what you're having to cope with now.

Bless you, and more hugs xxx
