Hello!

I'm 21 weeks pregnant at the moment and I still have pain in my hip joints when I sleep on my side,it even wakes me up on a nightly basis! As soon as I turn over or sit on the side of the bed the pain get's more intensive for a few seconds then disappears.I spoke to my midwife a few weeks ago and she says it will just be the joints preparing for the birth.
Is anyone else getting this or could shed more light on this matter please.

Kind regards

I had this about 4-5 weeks ago (when around 9-10 weeks pregnant) for just over a week, then it went away. I went to see GP at the time and also spoke to midwife, they just advised to take paracetemol if the pain was too bad and come back for more help if it didn't go away. It was excruciatingly painful, had to find an old walking stick to help me when getting up in the night and first thing in the morning.

I am now starting to feel some twinges again and really hoping it's not coming back.

Friends of mine have had crippling SPD in first and second pregnancies and ended up on crutches.

If it doesn't improve, insist on getting some help. There are supports you can get, crutches, and physio.

I'm sure some SPD sufferers will be on here soon to offer advice and sympathy too. Take care x

Had this with both my second and current pregnancy (am 27 wks with dc3) Been told various reasons including sciatica and bad circulation. Often my hip goes completely numb for a while, and then get searing pain. I find using a v-shaped pillows to wrap your legs around helps as it levels your hips.

I'm so pleased to hear that other people have had this. Definitely going to seek more help as it's so annoying during the evening and my weight is definitely going to increase adding more pressure! Thankyou xx

I have this (24wks) - I had some physio and that was useful because although I've always considered myself fit and toned, she showed me how to do some hip exercises whilst properly engaging the core muscles and the difference is really noticable. I am also sleeping with a pillow between my knees to level my hips up and a pillow in front and behind me to stop me twisting too much.
Hope it gets better, its really painful isnt it x
