I'm almost 38 weeks and my boobs are still the same size! My nips have definitely changed a bit but I'm worried that the boobs aren't going to do their job. Can this be normal? Will they get bigger as milk kicks in?

I went from an AA to the dizzy heights of an A! Fed two babies, each for six months, no problem.

After 2 pregnancies I am still an insignificant A cup Hmm

Caz10 · 24/02/2011 20:09

Mine! They didn't last time either! Gutted!

boredbuthappy · 24/02/2011 20:11

Okay, I'm glad to hear that us small tittied women can can still have breasts to feed their babies with. I was hoping for nice voluptuos ones by now and it hasn't happened!

Mine haven't changed massively just filled out...filling up the slight loss of previous weight loss really!

clarabella18 · 24/02/2011 21:13

Mine haven't changed either. Not this time or the last, I'm 28+1. Last time I never had any milk at all not even colostrum but have been told that just because it didn't come through last time doesn't mean I won't be able to feed this time.

boredbuthappy · 24/02/2011 22:09

Really? Nothing at all? That is what I'm afraid of, I really have my heart set on breast feeding and my breasts don't feel like they are gearing up for anything at all. In fact, apart from my bump, nothing on my body has changed, little bit worrysome.

Bored please don't worry re feeding, breast size/growth is absolutely NOT an indicator of milk supply. My teeny weeny non changing boobs have only just now finished feeding Dd who is 3, she was ebf till 9mths, mx fed with formula to a year, then continued to bf a good few times a day till fairly recently! ( only mix fed when I was at work!)

Please don't worry - in my non-pregnant state my boobs were non-existent (seriously - I struggled to fill an AA cup) and didn't increase at all in pregnancy. My DS is now 4 months old and on the 75th weight centile, just on breastmilk - he is getting plenty! I went to a C cup when my milk came in and am loving having boobs for the first time in my life! Don't worry if it seems like you have no milk at first, colostrum is only there in tiny amounts which is all your baby needs - my boobs didn't increase in size at all until the proper milk came in, which is about day 3. And remember that breast size is only down to fat - everyone has the same basic milk ducts, but more or less fat which determines the size.

Don't worry about nothing else in your body changing either during pregnancy - I never had morning sickness, bigger boobs etc either and everything was completely fine.

Mine filled out when milk came in on day 4 but not enough to go up a size!

dorodot · 25/02/2011 09:31

Mine havent changed much either, Im not really surprised as they have always been the same same size even when Ive been a size 6 or a size 10.

I'm happy about it as I imagine having big changes in the size would increase stretch marks/sagginess once you have done with pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Maybe ask your mum about it. My mum's breasts were the same as mine (i.e didnt grown much) and she still has relatively nice shaped breasts at 60-something that might be attributed to the lack of growth/changes during her child bearing years. Oh and she breastfed 4 children so the lack of change in size made no difference there.

We are all different remember. At least we dont have to buy bras in lots of different sizes.

mejon · 25/02/2011 09:50

Mine didn't grow in pregnancy either but I think they must be bigger now that my milk has come in. Unfortunately I live out in the sticks and there's nowhere I can go to get properly fitted for a bra so I'm currently wearing Next nursing bras in a 38E which are both too big and too small at the same time if I'm honest (if that makes sense). I'll have to try and get some proper ones as soon as 3 week old DD2 settles a bit better.

Although it's highly unlikely that this is the case for you, in my situation a lack of change in breast size was an indication of my inability to breast feed properly. After a week of trying to settle a new born baby who refused to sleep or be put down, and who went down to a very low weight, I was diagnosed with hypoplasticity of the breast by an experienced midwife and breastfeeding consultant. Symptoms of this are small breasts set quite far apart, often of uneven size and which change little during pregnancy. Although I was producing some milk, essentially there are not enough milk ducts to fully breast feed without specific support, milk supply stimulation and luck very early on. That's why I felt I should post - get looked at, and then in the highly unlikely event you have this (chances are 1 in 2000) you might be able to get help now and not have to go through the shock and guilt I did. On the plus side, I managed to mix feed for 6 months and now am expecting another and have a breast feeding plan in place so that fingers crossed I might have a better supply this time.
