Baby pulling the umbilical cord - dangerous??

Perhaps this is a silly question, but my LO seems to be increasingly interested in the umbilical cord and pulls it quite forcefully sometimes. For me it simply feels a little uncomfortable, but I was actually worried that he might pull on it so hard it breaks somehow.. Is this possible? And how would I know if something's not normal??

Sorry if this is too silly Confused..

Yes it is a somewhat endearing topic Blush..

My mom just said the only way he could "break" the cord was if he was to chew it off which would be difficult with no teeth Grin.. Although I think I heard of a miracle baby that was born with one tooth Smile..

it's your tendons stretching

Highlandgirl · 24/02/2011 20:54

Yes they do like to tugging the cord...not much else to do in there Smile sometime your belly bottom drops in too. Apart from it being annoying it won't do any harm to you or the baby.

I've had this...very odd feeling! Tendons stretching is a very different feeling!

do you mean belly button?

do you think the umbilical is attached to your belly button ?? LOL Grin

Erm...you do realise that cords are not attached to belly buttons yes? It is more common I think for a placenta to be attached to the back of your womb anyway...

LOL belly button :o thats where your cord was attatched when you were still just a bump!!

Melly19MummyToBe · 26/02/2011 20:33

highlandgirl, Do you honestly think that the babies cord is attatched to your belly button?? Just wondering as I posted a thread the other week about getting pains when I move too much and you said to me "remember, your belly button is playing an important role" actually, my belly button is doing naff all!

pastamouse · 27/02/2011 12:58

Grin at belly button attached idea. Bless! Agree that tendons stretching is v different sensation though.

the baby is not pulling the cord... it is the membraines around your own belly button that are stretching causing you pain and discomfort. i have been experiencing this and this is what my consultant told me.

You are not the only one feeling that. I also feel pulling on the cord! Glad to hear it won't break..but a strange feeling for sure..
