I fell over :(

Yesterday I fell over on to my back whilst hurrying for the bus, covered in mud I got the bus home and was in a bit of a shaky shock.
last night my tummy started to really hurt like I'd pulled a muscle and this morning its SO much worse can hardly sit up properly without it really hurting.
When I fell I automatically tried to protect the bean and really hurt my elbow on the curb - just wondering whether the pulled muscles can affect the baby at all?
I'm 13 weeks pregnant and need some reassurance :(

Your baby is very well protected in there, so I'm sure you have no need to worry at all. I know people that have been involved in car accidents and all sorts. I fell down some steps when I was 6 months pregnant, landing on my side in my attempt to keep the bump safe. DS is now your normal, stroppy toddler!!

However, if you are still worried at all, give your midwife a call. It will help to properly set your mind at rest in a way that we won't be able to!! They really won't mind - they will be used to such concerns!!

boredbuthappy · 24/02/2011 12:13

Oh no, I know how you feel, I fell over forward on my tummy (!) when I was 5 months and was terrified I'd really hurt the baby, but baby was just fine. They are very well protected in there as the previous poster mentiond. Chances are you've jsut hurt yourself, in which case get checked out for sprains or bruises. Don't worry too much, but do get checked out, pregnancy comes with so many aches and pains, added ones don't help!

Prinpo · 24/02/2011 12:17

I agree, I'd call your midwife and ask whether there's anything that can be done to reassure you. You're early to pick anything up on a doppler, but it may be worth a try (as long as it won't worry you if nothing can be heard, as that would be normal at your stage). If you really push and if you have symptoms that are worrying you then they may agree to a scan, although I think it's probable that they won't.

I too came a nasty cropper in the ice when I was pregnant with DD1. She's now a strapping 8 year old. Your bean really is well-protected in there.

I hope everything's ok and you get some reassurance.

I'm 34+4 and fell over AGAIN last week. I have dodgy hips and fall all the time!

I went to A+E with one fall because I pulled my back out but the doctors all agree baby is very well protected in there. The last fall I turned an ankle and went straight done onto my hands and knees, SO embarrassing. Especially as with my SPD two handsome strangers had to pick me up Blush

Laura05 · 24/02/2011 14:11

i slipped on wet grass at 15weeks and had pains across my stomach which got worse. I spke to the midwife who suggested paracetamol but when that didn't work i went in for a check-up. Midwife just thoughts i'd pulled muscles but i was glad just for the reassurance that everything was alright. Im sure its nothing to worry about but if you do need to put your mind at rest, phone your midwife. They're there to reassure us Smile (pointed out by my midwife)

You are obviously going to worry love so go to the midwife (or even your hospital if you already had the 12 week scan there) and ask them to check for you.
FWIW i have a bonny 11 week old despite falling 3x while pregnant - once down stairs landed on bum, once up a step landed on all fours and finally down a spiral staircase landed on arm.
I was a really clumsy cow but good at landing to protect litlle one. Also had pneumonia and ribs and intercostalmuscles absolutely agony from non stop coughing.

Baby was fine. Just fine. But it does no harm whatsoever to put your mind at rest when needed.

vj32 · 24/02/2011 15:11

Dr told me it would require a 'catastrophic fall' to harm a baby, especially when it is still little.

geisha · 24/02/2011 15:14

Poor you jazz, it is a worry. I tripped up a curb and landed on my bump when I was 38 wks pregnant with dd1. I was so worried I took myself off to hospital and got monitored but we were both absolutely fine. I didn't manage to go into labour either! If you're worried, call your midwife or GP, however I'm sure the likelihood is that baby will be fine.

jazz412 · 24/02/2011 17:52

I've got a scan scheduled anyway for tomorrow and I'd be VERY suprised if they'd make one any sooner unless I was bleeding or something.
I'm feeling like I've mainly hurt myself and pulled muscles because it hurts when I go from lying down to sitting up the most which is usual for muscle pulling pains...i think
Thanks for all of the sympathy :) Just what I needed whilst feeling sorry for myself! I'll update you all on the scan tomorrow, fingers crossed for me!

Ah, it's good you have the scan to put your mind at rest. I'm sure it will all be fine in there!!

You're certainly right you wouldn't get one sooner - I couldn't get one for 5 days when I bled with this pregnancy and sadly, that's not unusual!! All was ok though, thank God.

Try to rest as much as you can xx

jazz412 · 24/02/2011 19:00

It's so wonderful to see, isn't it?!

Enjoy the rest of your pregnancy xx

I fell down a scree slope (slid down 50m) covered in icy snow in the lake district at 8 months (was new years day last year). Somehow did a ice-axe arrest without a ice-axe. Result, extremely bruised everywhere and a bump on the head, but stomach left untouched.

A&E referred me to the midwife section, gave me a extra anti-D jab as antibodies showed up in the bloods the next morning (didn't stay over). Whilst there they attached the strappy thing, all was fine :)

So a fall from standing/running, not a problem Grin

glad the scan went well :) and enjoy the rest. The best bit is coming up.
