Fetal sexing - who found out at 20 weeks?

Hi,
I have a question for all those people who have previously found out the sex of their baby at the 20 week scan and whether or not the given sex was correct at birth.

I have been reading stories on the Internet about people who have been told wrongly, but don't know any myself. All the people I know have been told the correct sex. Just wondering really, if you do find out, how much credibility do you give it?

Cheers,
Orchid

I have found out both times. Was told that DD1 was a girl at 16 weeks and then a 4d scan at 26 weeks confirmed it. They were right.

This time we've been told that this one is another girl. The sonographer showed us the bits and explained what they were so I'm feeling pretty sure. Due date is in 5 days so not long to find out for definite!

moonbells · 21/02/2011 14:52

I asked if we could have a look, the sonographer was ok with it and moved the ultrasound probe round, at which point it was instantly and blatantly obvious to everyone that he was a boy!

And don't we know it, now... Grin

CitizenOscar · 21/02/2011 17:34

I found out I'm having a boy. He's not here yet, but when we asked, the sonographer zoomed in on the appropriate parts Wink and it was pretty obvious, so I'd be quite surprised if he turned out not to be a boy!

moodymoo · 21/02/2011 17:59

Was told we were having a girl in our 1st pregnancy and they were right, been told we are expecting another girl and have had this checked at every scan as had quite a few, it was so obvious on the 20 week scan that there were no dangly bits - it really did look like a burger in a bun!
However I have a friend who was told she was having a girl - at a number of scans - bought everything pink and decorated everything pink - only to have a boy!
My boss was told she was having twin girls so was quick to try and set the surgeon straight during her c-section when he told her she had got one of each! Poor boke - would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when that happened - cos when she thinks she's right there's no telling her Grin.

ipredicttrouble · 21/02/2011 18:07

Jasper how did you know that DD was definitely a girl, even without being told?

I'm genuinely interested. Smile

Obviously, with a boy you might be able to spot the bits. My DC1 is a girl but there's no way I would have been able to tell that just by looking at the screen at the 20 wk scan.

CoteDAzur · 21/02/2011 18:11

We found out at with both babies at 12 week scans (not 20 week) and both predictions were correct.

happycamel · 21/02/2011 18:16

I think the stats say they are roughly 97% accurate at sexing, at least that's what my scan info from the hospital says.

perpetuallypregnant · 21/02/2011 18:31

I didn't find out with ds as they didn't tell you 15 years ago routinely.

With my 3 dds I found out at the 20 week scan and all were correct.

I have been told that this one is a dd too but won't find out for definite until may!

JimmyChoo17 · 21/02/2011 20:07

I work with a lady who was told hers was a boy - so she kitted out her nursery etc with Boys things and we all bought boys gifts and a boys hamper....

Her baby was born a girl 2 weeks ago! It does happen but shes the only person I know of.

She had gone all out on a boys theme tho. Whilst pleased all was ok...slightly annoyed due to having to get the Dulux out and redo the walls!!

Meglet · 21/02/2011 20:10

I was told a girl and she was a girl.

Out of all the people I know who found out (about 10 pregnancies off the top of my head) they were all told the correct sex.

jellybeans · 21/02/2011 20:12

Found out with 3 of my boys and 1 of my girls, all were right!

Sparklies · 21/02/2011 20:20

DD1 was right from 19 weeks.

DD2 I was told 80% boy at a vanity gender scan at 16.5 weeks.. at 18 weeks I was told girl by a proper sonographer and so she was :)

The cord can sometimes look like a willy.

This time I was told definitely boy at 12.5 weeks by the FMC (based on the "angle of the dangle theory") and five scans since (now 28 weeks) have confirmed it.

SauvignonBlanche · 21/02/2011 20:23

Didn't want to know for my first, found out at 36 weeks for DD and it was right.

Didn't find out with ds1.

With ds2 the sonographer said she wasn't permitted to give us a guarantee "but it's not going to drop off between now and October" Grin

It didn't - he was definitely a boy!

midori1999 · 21/02/2011 23:24

I found out with my first 3 DC, all boys, all correct. They even wrote 'male foetus' on DS2's notes, so they must have been pretty sure!

With my twins I was told numerous times twin 2 was probably a girl, then told the sonographer was certain the day before I had them that she was a girl. Both were girls, they just couldn't see for twin 1 as she had no fluid.

This time we had a private scan with a consultant at 18+2 and was told he was 99% sure it was a girl, but at the same time he said he would never tell soneone it was 100%. I had my 20 week scan today (21 weeks) and although they won't tell us, I could defnitely and clearly see 'girl bits'. Being scanned by the consultant in 3 weeks, so I'll get her to check.

Orchid12 · 22/02/2011 09:49

Thanks everyone. Seems like most people got given the right prediciton, although not everyone!

I was given an indication of what to expect but it is now bugging me that perhaps they are wrong. I keep imagining giving birth and expecting one thing, only to be told it's another. Guess the only way to find is to have baby, as DH is refusing to pay for a sexing scan as he doesn't really want to know. I was never any good at being patient, and this is testing my resolve to the limit Grin. Roll on July...

Hey, just popping in to say that my second scan prediction was right! DD2 born today!

Hersetta · 22/02/2011 18:50

20 week scan said a girl and was correct.

Had my 12 week scan 5 weeks ago for DC2 and was told it was a girl. Will see in 3 weeks if this is still correct!

Orchid12 · 23/02/2011 07:31

Congratulations to Waddling! Grin Lovely to hear you're ok, if not slightly bonkers for remembering to update this Wink.

Sending very best wishes to you and your new DD. xxxx

Ha ha! Smile

I was in hospital and very bored, MNing from hospital bed and this was on the "threads I'm on". Smile

YankNCock · 23/02/2011 10:07

20 week scan said boy, and had a boy.

PenguinsMummy · 23/02/2011 15:55

20wk scans for DD1&2 both said girls and were correct. We did have a 4D scan at 30 weeks with both and the 'hamburger' was very clear Grin

DD3 due in April and both 20wk and 4D scan last week confirmed that she was a girl - will wait and see!!

ValiumSandwich · 23/02/2011 15:56

correct two out of two times
