A pain in the backside

Hello everyone,

I've had a very straightforward pregnancy up until now (20ish weeks) but now I am experiencing shooting pains inside my right butt cheek!

It feels more like nerves than muscular, and I get it when I'm walking for a while or turning unexpectedly.

Feeling a bit daft because it may well be totally unrelated and I'm attributing every twinge to being pregnant.

Anyone else experienced this? I have no pains anywhere else.

Have to dash off now and irritate my arse some more by walking around town but I'll be back for any wise words. x

i wonder if its your sciatic nerve? I get shooting pains in my left butt cheek and I know its that, so annoying, just happens for no reason! Its probably with all the stretching and stuff going on

OK, hopefully that's all it is. I might go to the GP, probably the sensible thing to do! Thanks for your reply x

Have the same thing, it's so annoying!!
Spent a while on the floor scraping tiles up the other day, I can tell you that didn't help!! lol
Mentioned it to midwife, she said it was normal but if it got worse she'd refer me for a bit of physio.
I have found sleeping with knees and legs apart (use a pillow) has helped. Hope it goes soon though!! :)

Sciatica for sure. Usually caused by injury to or compression of the sciatic nerve. There probably isn't much they can give you for it while you're pregnant.

There is a point on your bum-cheek where your sciatic nerve is closest to the surface, and if you apply firm pressure there it sometimes eases the pain for a while. It's hard to describe exactly where, but it's kind of the bit towards the side of your bum-cheek, where there's a bit of a dip. Press around there with a thumb or a knuckle -- you'll know when you've found it because it will be tender. Then every time there's a twinge, you can press there (quite firmly) and hold it for about 10 seconds or so and the pain down your legs should ease.
