Anyone else stricken by the early pregnancy tiredness exhaustion? I'm 5 weeks today, nauseous on and off, but finding it increasingly hard to stay awake at work (I have a full time office job).

Any tips on how to stay awake (bar the obvious go to bed early, which I'm doing)?

I'm not planning to tell my boss til at least 8 weeks because of problems with my contract, so would prefer to hang on for a while if poss.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I was wiped out in my early pregnancy too, more so this time than last.

If you can take a cat nap at lunchtime, 20-30 minutes can be quite refreshing.

Or try to prop yourself up at your desk in such a way that it looks like you're working! :)

Bumpsadaisie · 17/02/2011 16:38

Ditto here - 5+2 here. Knackered and bleugh. Thank god am going home soon! I hope to God DD doesn't keep me awake tonight.

Eat and drink every hour. Get fresh air.

Avoid fresh orange juice - though I fancied it then it tasted like battery acid!

spilttheteaagain · 17/02/2011 16:48

When your eyes are closing and you really can't fight it go and sit on the loo and actually close them for 5 mins.

Also recommend a few pointless ambles round the building esp outside if possible.

Good luck, I found it murder!

JimmyChoo17 · 17/02/2011 22:33

Zzzzzzzzz

Yep I hear u!! Have eased off this now but from 5 to17nweeks I was awfully tired. Found going for a walk outside just quickly, or cold drink sat some where cooler helped. Temporarily tho.

Tiredness made my sickness worse so was a vicious circle. I have to admit......going to my car and napping once! Just for 10 mins or so and I set my alarm but that day I would have collapsed with exhaustion. Looking back I realise I was so bad I should have gone home. Luckily I can work from home so agreed with boss I would do odd days at home.

Really helped as no rushing about, no office disturbances and clearing my work in my pjs was a godsend, not an option for everyone but recommend if u can. I found I worked my hours at diff times of day.

Good news is...it'll pass one day xx

I don't know if it was a physcological thing or if it actually made a physical difference to my body functioning but I took spatone liquid iron in orange juice in the morning for the first 14 weeks especially on my really tired days (I was also taking pregnacare, which bizarrely does not contain much iron!) and I felt much better when i remembered. I suggested a friend that is 8 or 9 weeks behind me do the same and she said it helped her too!
I'm now 35 weeks and into different levels of exhausted!
Good luck. :)

corkythecat · 18/02/2011 12:11

I'm 5 weeks too and am thinking I will feel like this when I get back to work next week (have been off this week with poorly DS)

A colleague of mine who is currently off on mat leave went for a nap every lunchtime until about 7 months in the sick bay.

Not really a possibility for me,I only get short lunches, so will be eating little and often and trying to get out in the fresh air at lunch.

boredbuthappy · 18/02/2011 12:48

The idea of a a very quick cat nap in the loo is a good one...no one will know and you will feel suprisingly better. You can do this a few times a day if you need to!

iwilldothis · 18/02/2011 13:01

ROFL....imagining a queue forming outside the cubicle as you catnap on the loo!! Maybe set an alarm clock for 10mins or so in consideration for others??!! Grin

kateepie2 · 18/02/2011 14:16

that made me laugh, especially as there is only one female loo on my floor, can imagine a queue of disgruntled crossed legged women! Grin

I used to nap in the toilet...only for a minute or two...low blood pressure you see...

Molybdenum · 18/02/2011 15:00

Protein protein protein.
And stay away from sugar. Reactive hypoglycaemia is more pronounced in pregnancy.
Go and see your GP/midwife to ask to have your ferritin, B12 and thyroid function tested.

boredbuthappy · 18/02/2011 15:10

Well obviously if there is only one female loo, then you can't do the catnap thing, but if you have the chance take it!

apples82 · 18/02/2011 15:22

I'm 5+4 and all this week I have been practically asleep at my desk. Even my boss has been yawning with me because I'm yawning so much!

Yesterday, I got home at 5pm and went straight to bed, got woken up by DH at 6pm to eat my dinner.

YAWN!!!!

PinkFondantFancy · 18/02/2011 15:28

Same here, but word of warning about sleeping in the toilet - I woke myself up snoring the other day Blush, luckily no-one else was about and I'd only been there 5 mins but was absolutely exhausted!

apples82 · 18/02/2011 15:32

Our work has a disabled toilet that has a radiator, so it gets lovely and snug in there.

Can't believe I look forward to seeing in my works toilet just for the comfort of being able to close my eyes for a few mins in the warmth Smile

kateepie2 · 21/02/2011 10:33

Trying very hard to stay away from sugar, though tried to explain why I didn't want a biscuit to in-laws yesterday (MIL is retired nurse) and they seemed to think I was just being funny Hmm

Is anyone else permanently freezing/boiling hot? My internal thermostat seems to be broken!

MrsCLH · 21/02/2011 10:57

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who cat naps in the toilet! Just closing your eyes for 5 mins is absolute bliss some days!

I am struggling massively at work, just feel constantly sick and tired and it only escalates as the day goes on. I'm 9 weeks tomorrow, really hopig things start to improve when I get to 12 because I am seriously unproductive at the moment!!

iwilldothis · 21/02/2011 13:55

kateepie2 YES, me! I'm FREEZING all the time....happened in last pregnancy too. I just can't keep warm, no matter how many layers I wear, including thermals!

kateepie2 · 21/02/2011 14:10

mrsclh I can recommend homemade tomato, lentil and red pepper soup, seems to be the only thing that gives me any energy and relieves the nausea.

iwilldothis glad its not just me!

LittlePebble · 22/02/2011 15:34

kateepie2 iwilldothis me three!

I'm so cold all the time - and exhausted. Luckily am working from home today but finding it so hard to concentrate and keep wanting to eat toasted muffins with honey on (working for my nausea)....is it too soon to blame this on cravings (I'm 7 or 8 weeks PG)?
