Slapped Cheek

I am 15+ weeks pregnant and Ive just found out that slap cheek disease is going around my DC's preschool at the moment. I am unable to get a midwife appointment for at least 2 weeks (they have said they'll get a midwife to ring me though)
In the meantime, I've just scared myself silly by looking it up on Google. Does anyone have any experience of this that would reassure me please. :(

Am going through the same thing at the moment. You can ask your GP to do a blood test for immunity - 60% of UK women are immune so the odds are good. The test result are available in 10 minutes believe it or not. Otherwise I am as much in the dark as you are as I too am waiting for my MW to call - I am not immune but want to know how I can tell if I have already contracted it as it is often symptom free. The implications for the bump are anaemia and I dont know if they can do any tests to see whether an infection has spread to bump or not - perhaps someone else will enlighten us!

Thank you for sharing Jasmine. I have an appointment now (with nurse) for a weeks time to have bloods taken. FX all will be well. I was told that they will pick up if baby has been affected (if you've caught it) at the 20 week scan. How they would treat it & even if they can is a mystery to me. I hope you find your answers.

Good stuff. I have a blood test at GPs on Weds which will confirm my (non) immunity and apparently will show if I've recently been exposed too. It wasnt mentioned at my 20 wk scan, not sure how they could tell since it affects blood not organs.
I know that in rare cases it can lead to anaemia in the fetus and in even rarer cases it would require a fetal transfusion but I dont know the stats.

Flippin kids and their childhood viruses eh!

I had this problem few fews bk but i wasnt kucky enough to get my results straight away it took two weeks. As has already been said most people hav immunity so hopefully you hav too. I read the only way they would monitor u was with additional scans as can result in water build up around babies irgans which may cause problems. I had jst had my scan when waitin for results and didnt see anythin abnormal which made me feel better. I will keep everythin crossed for you.
