Hi,

Sorry to sound a bit dippy but we've recently bought our nursery furniture from mamas and papas (orchard range). My question is do I need to buy the mamas and papas mattress they recommend? It's £82.00 (the sleepsafe 400 spring interior)and I'm not sure if that's expensive or not? Also is there a type of mattress that's best for baby?

Thanks for your help

Linking it would be helpful. My immediate answer would be no. Not unless it is a funny size or shape. They would recommend it since ofc it means you giving them money, there are plenty of others out there. I have a mattress I bought of kiddicare for my mothercare cotbed. Check the dimensions of your cot to that of the other mattresses you are looking at.

all mattress have to conform to certain saftey standards so you don;t have to buy the M&P one. Some people prefer sprung over foam. The main thing is that it should fit the cot properly so there are no big gaps that baby can get wedged in. Ikea do a good range (though their sizes might be a bit odd) or places like John Lewis, Mothercare, even ToysRus.

No you don't need to get the mama's & papa's mattress, I have a Mama's & Papas cot and got the same mattress you are talking about from Amazon for £38. Shop around you'll find you may save some money. Make sure you check the internal measurements of your cot though. xx
