41 weeks today - bishops score?

Wondering if there is anyone out there who knows something about this?

I am 41 weeks today, and no signs baby is on its way.

I had a sweep last week, and another today. The doctor said she didn't think anything was imminent but the neck of my womb was softening.

I've not had any obvious signs of labour yet - no plug, a few tightenings but nothing painful.

I'm booked in for an induction on Monday when when I'll be 40+12.

Just looking at my notes now, and she's written B score - 3 (not sure if its meant to be a dash or a minus).

I've googled and it seems there is something called a bishop score which indicates how ready the body is?

Can anyone help me interpret please?

Hi - I was overdue by 10 days with my first child and the midwife was plotting a Bishop's score chart. Bishop's Score is based on station, dilation, effacement, position and consistency of the baby and helps midwives assess whether a normal vaginal delivery is likely. The score enables midwives to understand when to induce a baby - how dilated you are, where the baby is positioned in the pelvis etc. I had 2 sweeps and was booked in for an induction on a saturday but the baby arrived on the wednesday so wasn't induced. To prevent induction, keep mobile, walk if you can just keep moving. Babies come when they are ready - just keep moving. Hope this helps x

I had my last 2 babies at 40+14! For the first one I had 3 sweeps and acupuncture to no effect and had to go in for daily monitoring from 41 weeks. She came when she was ready.

Her brother - I fibbed early on about my LMP, but confessed to a MW when I got to 40+12, had a sweep and went into labour later that day.

If you don't want to be induced you can hang on for a bit longer.

Thanks ladies. I think I'd be quite happy to be induced tbh. At the moment, I'm so naffed off I'm happy to get baby out by whatever means necessary!

I've always been pretty sure of my dates - my lmp date and scan date were only one day apart - I was monitoring and had a clockwork cycle. Everything has been like clockwork throughout - apart from this end bit!

So with a score of only 3, could I be looking at a c-section if nothing has happened by Monday/early next week?

I think they'd try induction via prostin first (the pessary) which works to help dilate the cervix enough for them to do ARM, rather than going straight for c-section.

However, if your Bishop's Score isn't high then induction is less likely to work.

So you could possibly be looking at an eventual c-section, but then so could any woman really.

MrsTickle, I replied to your thread on another part of the forum.

No not at all regarding CS, A lot can change by monday and IOL would be your first port of call anyway. A BS of 3 isnt bad by all means Smile
