Pelvic pain at 25 wks, worried it might be start of SPD?

So. I'm 25 wks P with my first.

I had some pain in my left hip at around 17 wks. I was told to refer myself for physio at the hospital but they never got back to me, perhaps because I rang during the christmas period. That particular pain seemed to ease up (I only get little twinges from time to time now) so I left it.

But this last week I have definite aches and pains in my pelvis, and what feels like right around, err, my fanjo. (The pubic bone perhaps?) It hurts to get up, is sore when I walk and I'd also noticed that having sex hurts - it feels as if my bones are really sensitive. (Sorry if TMI!)

I'm seeing my GP today for a review and will ask him then, but wondered if anyone had any thoughts on what this might be, or if it's just fairly normal. I have read a fair bit about people experiencing SPD so it's on my mind. Sad

Hi nomore. It sounds like it could be. I am 28 weeks and am suffering with what I think is SPD and it sounds similar! It kind of feels like I have been kicked in the fango and is painful to stand on one leg when putting socks on etc. Sex also now def off my radar Blush. I suffer more thought with a pain in the buttock, kind of where my leg meets hip feeling. Its second time round for me though and I had it last time too. Am also off to docs this pm to beg for help!

FWIW a friend was told by nurse that it tends to come on around 24 weeks, peak at 26 and can settle by 30. Not the case for all but might give you hope. It was certaintly like that for me last time although this time its been griping aronnd since 9 weeks and is now getting much worse Sad.
Hope this helps and good luck!

Thanks for the reply whitey. Sorry to hear you're suffering too, hope it settles for you. Your perspective is really useful, cheers. I'll see what my GP says.

Fingers crossed it doesn't get any worse and might settle by 30 weeks - that would be good. I really hope it does, I still have SO much DIY to do before baby arrives, and other things I'm trying to squeeze in before she comes - I really would hate to have to slow down too much! (I have had a very active pregnancy so far, I'm the type of person who hates to be still...)

It does sound like it (suffered very badly with DD2 and still suffering a bit now, a year on).

Go to the GP, get a referral to a physio, get a belt. A Tens machine really helped me in the evenings with the pain. Think about your birth plan if it starts to deteriorate - there are things that you won't be able to do, and you may need extra help. Think about going on mat leave earlier than you had planned (if you work). And look up PINS.

I really hope it isn't, but if there's even a chance it could bem get onto it as quickly as possible.

Good luck x

Well! My GP didn't rule out SPD & I'll talk to the midwife sone more when I see her on Friday. However due to where I was feelng the most pain, he tested me for a UTI & his basic test kit came out positive. He's sent it to the lab to be sure but has started me on a week of penicillin anyhow. We'll see if it helps. I have to say it doesn't feel like a UTI, but not had one for 15 years so hard to say for sure.

The mysteries of pregnancy!

Thanks for the further reply, I am already off work & will remember to take it easy if it gets worse. I have a hard time slowing down but I might have no choice...

Hi - it does sound like SPD, I had it last time and this time, I get like a searing burning pain right in the middle of my pubic bone and a generalised ache round the bit where your thighs meet your pelvis and round my lower back. Osteopathy really helped me last time and helped a bit this time. Wearing a support belt helps somewhat to with walking.

hope you get some help.
