Murphy's/Sod's Law and getting pregnant (light-hearted)

Just for fun, what were the Murphy's Law/Sod's law indicators or things you did that meant you were definitely going to get pregnant soon (or were already pregnant)?

Mine were:

  • we booked a very expensive non-cancellable long-haul holiday for seven months' time. Using air miles for the flights.
  • I talked to a friend about ttc and how an August baby wouldn't be great anyway for school admission dates (guess when I'm due?)
  • I went out and bought myself a whole load of new clothes, none of them suitable for pregnancy. And I got rid of my mummy-tummy-hiding clothes.
  • as Christmas was coming, I went and bought a load of my favourite alcohol in readiness, loads of my favourite white wine (was on offer), port, etc.
  • I ditched the healthy diet and started eating rubbish and forgot to take my vitamins.

Yep, found out I was pregnant (after a year of ttc) in early December!

So what are your stories?

I'm trying the sod's law approach to going on to labour! Due next Wednesday but insisting that DH travels some distance for a football match this weekend and as it's his birthday has a few drinks. Am convinced that contractions will start whilst he's away!

Wishful thinking..!

'On to labour!!?' 'Into labour' even.

Oh, who cares? Just get this baby out!

SerenaJoy Please try not to worry about the tiny flat. It actually worked in our favour (I got pregnant the day we moved in Hmm). As my pregnancy continued not having stairs was brilliant - especially as I had ms right until the very end - no dashing up/downstairs to puke. It was always our plan to have the baby in with us at first anyway so that really didn't make a difference although the bedroom did get a little cramped with his cot/wardrobe and all our stuff too! It was great having everything on one level and when he was about 4 months and we started putting him to bed on his own and us having the monitor it was great to literally be able to walk 10 steps to be in the bedroom.

He's now 7.5 months and we just bought & moved in to our new house last weekend - but for the first 6 months it really made no odds at all. When anyone said "have you decorated the baby's bedroom yet?" I simply smiled and said "oh no, he'll obviously be sleeping with us for the next x months". :)

Due date coincides with the first day of Dp's week of marking exam work !
So glad though !!! We are very excited

When I was out shopping with DH one day, I saw a fabulous outfit in a vintage shop- an incredibly figure-hugging grass green leather 60s skirt suit in a size 8. It was £85, which I really couldn't afford, so reluctantly walked away. A bit later, DH said he was going back to buy me it as it looked so fabulous he couldn't not. We were TTC but (long story) the GP had given me next to zero chance due to various gynae problems, so I didn't think it'd be an issue. BFP 3 weeks later! DS 9 months old now and even though I weigh less now than before I was pregnant, I'm a very different shape (still breastfeeding) and I daren't even try the suit on...

cocoachannel just to make sure, book some cinema tickets for the day you want to go into labour. You'll go into labour 5 minutes after booking them. Guaranteed.

Thought when doing the weekly shop 'mm let's get some liver and do some nice liver, bacon and onions'. I'm now 8 weeks, it's still sat in the freezer obviously. Admittedly not a very big investment! Also got roaring drunk between conception and finding out, just to give myself something to worry about..

Deciduousblonde · 16/02/2011 11:40

DH booked in for the snip..2 weeks later found out I was preggers.

I'm now 29 weeks, and he is recovering nicely Grin

jellyhead188 · 16/02/2011 18:06

we used contraception to avoid the baby being due on the wedding date of my DH's brother!

Tillyscoutsmum · 16/02/2011 18:09

We'd been trying ttc for almost 2 years and had had 3 mc's in that time. It was all a bit emotional and I we were getting a bit obsessed. We decided to relax a bit and blow all our "baby" savings on a fantastic holiday to the Maldives. Guess where dd was conceived ? Grin

MandaHugNKiss · 16/02/2011 18:43

We should start trying because although ds2 is only 8 months at 37 and breastfeeding, it's probably gonna take a while.'

BFP 29 days later.
