Stiff aching finger joints in pg? Worrying?

Exactly what title says. I've had a few mornings when i've woken up and knuckle joints feel all stiff and achey. Put it down to perhaps being tense in sleep and having fists clenched as birth gets closer (38 weeks tomorrow). But i've just finished tea now and my fingers feel all achey now. Ia it just one of those pg ailments or should i be worried?

Could it be carpal tunnel syndrome? I had it in my wrists with dd1 and it was really painful, hot or cold packs/pouches helped.

I had this with pg1 and 2. It was carpal tunnel and was very sore in the mornings. Went soon after the births. Good luck with yours.

Had this myself - carpal tunnel probably. All very normal in pg and will soon go x

Me too - I get it every morning when I wake up (am 39 weeks). It's slightly better if my hands have been outside the duvet overnight (i.e. cooler) but I can't find any other way of easing it. It's not something to worry about, though not pleasant.

I have this too, midwife told me it's just a bit of swelling, however my fingers dont look swolen to me Hmm

I bet you could chalk it up to pregnancy pains if you've just started getting them. You may also find that your knees and ankles start feeling stiff when you wake up in the morning, too. Midwife and doc tell me it's just swelling. Though sometimes it feels like my fingers have come out of their sockets. a real pain! I feel ya!

Ah thanks everyone. Didn't think it would be serious, just uncomfortable and keep having moments of thinking the worst that it means i have to go to hospital. These last few weeks can't go soon enough so i can meet my LO and my body can begin to return tosome normality. Hmm

Definitely sounds like carpal tunnel - I didn't get it in my last pregnancy, but got it a few days after giving birth (which is pretty common too apparently). I thought it was because my hands/wrists were feeble and not used to holding DD...

Second the hot/cold packs, if they don't help you could get a wrist support like this to wear at night, supposed to really make a difference.

lindy100 · 12/02/2011 14:57

I got it - it went finally a few weeks after dd was born. I hated it, found it a pain (ha!) but had forgotten all about it until falling pg again.
