Should I feel guilty for taking anti nausea tablets?

Reading the pregnancy threads on here, everyone seems to struggle heroically on with morning sickness. I caved in today and went to doctor who said these days there's loads you can take for it. Should I feel guilty for taking medication? Already seems to be working a bit touch wood!

I took some with dd who is almost 8.

I functioned a little better with it - life was awful without it, and was able to eat a bit more.

with ds i didn't have anything - i was not working then, dd was at school so it was easier to sleep and rest a lot more than when pg with dd.

I felt guilty a bit but in the end i know i made the right choice for me.

some people have a bit of nausea and can function fine but it is a different thing to feel sick/be sick from morning til night for the entire pregnancy........

No you shouldnt! I couldnt keep any food down and I would have taken time off work sick, have no money, be stressed about work and money and not eating properly.

Instead i am now eating properly, I am not stressed about money or work.

Doctors are so careful in what they give you they wouldnt give you something that would harm your baby.

I hope you feel better soon

Am I missing something? Why should one feel guilty? Is the medication bad for the baby?

I am 8+6 and from 7 weeks have felt sick all day, every day. Though I have yet to actually vom, when it is at its worst (usually morning til about 1pm and evening from 7-9 ish) I feel like I am about to be sick at any moment (TMI, but you know the feeling when your mouth fills up with saliva pre vom?). It's really starting to get on my nerves. Every morning when I wake up I feel like I have a massive hangover.

I didn't realise there was anything I could take for it but shall be e-mailing my consultant forthwith.

I was on anti-nausea meds every six hours, day and night, for the last six months of my 4th pregnancy, only just making it to my conception weight before going into labour.

DS was born a perfectly normal weight, was my best sleeper, and two years on has been sick fewer times than my other three ever were.

In short, don't feel guilty!

I only felt a bit like everyone else seems to cope so shouldn't I?! But doctor assured me safe so hopefully will be able to function, work and look after dd1 now!

Don't feel guilty about taking drugs. When I went to the doctors she told me that she'd taken drugs herself when she was pregnant, so that made me feel better.

Do be prepared for the drugs not to work though. They didn't work for me, so you might have to try a few before you find one that helps.

Good luck!

To explain what i meant in my reply: I only felt guilty beacuse i was being told form some sides that the meds could be harmful to baby - and as hardly any of my freinds had babies by then it was hard to know who to listen to.

in short the doctors were right and there was no need to feel guilty.

After 11 weeks of vomiting 6-8 times a day I took them. When I asked gp about how safe they were he was v non committal so spoke to my friend who is a gp and she basically said it's unethical to test drugs on pregnant women so whilst some drugs have been around and used safely for years, they can never say they have been formally tested hence why I wonder about the mixed views.

I took them (supposedly to get me thru a weekend when I was on my own with ds1) but then once I took them and felt better I couldn't face going back to vomiting! However, within 5 days they had broken the cycle of being sick and therefore not eating and therefore being more sick and I stopped taking them even tho my gag reflex is still a bit too quick to react! I now feel incredibly lucky not to have had sickness for the Duration as I am not sure how people get thru it. I felt down and cried about how awful it was so anyone out there who has been sick for the full pregnancy I have absolute respect and admiration for getting thru it - you are amazing people.

Noooo don't feel guilty at all and doctors wouldn't give you something that would harm your baby, most the time they tell you just to get on with it. I'm jealous I never got them and suffered for 20weeks because I kept telling meself I would be better the next day.
Hope you feel better soon. X
