The thought of having 10 weeks of this is getting me down

Hi I'm six weeks pregnant and have just started to feel nauseous all the time. This is my third, with the first two I had nausea for 16 weeks and I didn't really find anything that helped. I'm just so not looking forward to this bit. Any good tips anybody? Or uplifting thoughts?
Dh said "Come on, you'll have a lovely baby at the end of it!" but at the moment that doesn't cheer me up that much.

IME morning sickness (well all day sickness) was very useful

It taught DS (who was just under 3) that when he feels sick he runs to the toilet .. we no longer have barf on the carpet

It also taught him how to get a glass of water and bring it to mummy

and when it stops it feels so so good

have you tried ginger?

emkana · 14/10/2005 10:03

I've heard of ginger helping, but in what form? Ginger nuts? Ginger ale? Is there such a thing as ginger tea? Or what? All sounds really unappealing... I wish there was just a tablet or something.

i swore by ginger nut biscuits

I soooooooo sympathise.

I hate to tell you this but I am now almost 12 weeks and the vomiting has got worse if anything - so bad now that I was laying in bed this morning almost in tears at the thought I had to get up and face it all again. I haven't got hyperemesis or anything, just a constant feeling of yuck with two good voms morning and evening. I do feel a bit better during the day. I am not sleeping well either which definitely makes the sickness worse - try to get as much rest as you can - I know its so hard when you have two (I do too) - but we had to reorganise our family schedule a bit so now dh makes the packed lunches and often cooks in the evening too. I tend to spend evenings laying on the sofa (makes me feel better) and trying not to feel like a big slobby lump.

To top it all, this morning dd1's headmistress asked me why dd1 wasn't her usual cheery self (she is having some probs with girls in her class) and I burst into tears .

Sorry to rant but just to let you know you are not alone. I cant recommend any foods that help, although eating little and often is good and nothing too acidic. love E x

Poor you emkana. I had it worst from wk6 to wk14 and there isn't much I can think of that helped! I had 'morning' sickness from about 11.30am until I went to bed every day. In fact the morning was the only bit of the day that was good!
I found that ginger beer was good - the really fiery Old Jamaican stuff (supermarket own is no good). It's probably full of chemicals, but it was so strong that it did help dull the sickness a bit. And really strong mints too. Other than that I found that nibbling all day was a help - pumpkin seeds and those little dry melba toasts were good.

And you WILL have a gorgeous baby at the end, and your hormones will make you forget all about it!

Well I'm waiting for my pg test result from my gp today.

I have been feeling sick for the last 2 weeks, everyday.

I had it with dd. The only thing I found to help was eating oranges, rich tea biscuits and ginger biscuits.

I did buy some sickness bands from the chemist and they worked really well too.
A collegue also bought me some crystalised ginger sweets but tbh the smell made me feel worse.
It did pass when I was about 12 weeks though.

GhostofNatt · 14/10/2005 10:19

Oh, emkana , it really is horrible isn't it? Have hit 14 1/2 weeks and it really is a bit better now.
As everyone says: any rest you can get.
Constant eating: crackers, boiled eggs, rice, dry biscuits. Ginger ale is quite good if you don't also have heartburn and lucozade if you can stomach it for a bit of energy. All that's really got me by this time is thinking "I just have to survive this. I won't worry about other stuff" - sorry if sounds a bit glum.

Enid · 14/10/2005 10:20

lol

agree with the 'survival' strategy. Coca Cola is brilliant actually but I really try not to drink it unless things are absolutely desperate.

Nbg · 14/10/2005 10:21

I have heard warm lemonade works too.

Never tried it but...

bubbles2904 · 14/10/2005 10:36

I found ginger biscuits and a slice of bread and butter helped me but not at the same time LOL
congratulations on your pregnancy.
Nbg, good luck with your result, hope you get the one you want please let us know, i'm so excited for you

homemama · 14/10/2005 12:30

Congratulations on your pg Emkana.
I know this isn't what you want to hear, but I found that nothing helped! I spent weeks 7-13 in bed, unable even to make it to the ensuite without help (6ft away). I just about managed to keep down some water and 1 or 2 bites of a dry bagel every day or two. (some days I couln't manage)
Why am I trying for another? Give me labour anyday over morning sickness!

Sorry, I know my post doesn't help. Just wanted to say I know what you're going through!

Rowlers · 14/10/2005 12:51

In was sick until week 19.
Was under the misconception that it would all stop around week 12. No such luck.
It was awful and reallyt put me off getting pregnant again.
Not much worked for me I'm afraid.
Eating little and often of fry, non-fatty food helped a little. Boiled sweets and Quavers.
Ginger did nothing. In fact I tried so many ginger products, I've been put off for life.
Removing strong smelling stuff from my immediate vicinity helped. And eating very plain food. One particular handwash would make me vomit instantly for some reason and I still can't smell it without strong waves of nausea.
Poor you - hope it doesn't last too long.

emkana · 14/10/2005 19:06

So to sum up it's a miserable time and nothing helps.

Thanks ladies.

The only trhing that used to help me was making sure i wasn't hungry and every single morning I had to have a glass of ice cold milk as soon as i woke up. Had to drink it through a straw very slowly, but i think it helped me feel full and managed to keep the sickness to a minimum.

Mumfun · 16/10/2005 21:17

There are alternative treatments that majorly help!

My hairdresser was v*** every day and had cranial massage and it stopped it - it was fantastic for her.

Ive found that reflexology really helps me -I was still feeling sick at 5 months last time -walked in and the reflexologist stoppped it within half and hour - fab for me. Have to say that it has hslped this pregnancy but hasnt kept sickness at bay totally due to other viruses and infections Ive unfortunately picked up.

If I were feeling as bad as you - would give one of these a try - have also heard good things of acupuncture but not directly from anyone I know.

Let me know if you want more info
