Just had to respond to this one...!

We also used CBFM and were lucky first cycle (am now 8+5, fingers crossed). I first started testing LIKE A TOTAL NUTTER about 7 days post ovulation I think with internet cheapies (though the ones that claimed to be super-sensitive), and pretty much tested most days until 10 or 11 days. Got negatives all those times, gutted. Was therefore certain wasn't pregnant. Also was getting pre-period type cramps so was sure period was about to start. About three days before my period would have been due I did one of those First Response early detection ones - again negative. As it says on the pack that something like 70% of pregnant people get a positive result then, and I got negaitve, assumed definitely wasn't pregnant. Two days later, which was when my period would have been due, still had period-type pains and almost for laughs did another internet cheapie. Was about to chuck it away when I realised a very faint line...! So did the other First Response test and that had a whopping clear pink line. Over the coming 7-10 days I tested almost EVERY day (told you was a nutter) on internet cheapies and saw the line get gradually darker.

Bet you wish you'd never asked :-)

Hi!

I tested on cd23 of a 29 day cycle with first response and tested daily for about a month afterwards!! Cost a bloody fortune as I was using clearblue digital (I love it when it says 'pregnant 1-2 / 2-3 / 3+) Grin

Hi,

I also fell pregnant the first month of using the CBFM and I love it!! Anyway, I did a First Response test 10 days past ovulation (in the afternoon at 5pm ish to be exact) and the line appeared!! Hubby thought I was mad testing so early because I hadn't even missed my period yet!

Good Luck!

12 DPO and used First Response. They really do pick it up first...not that I've wee'd on every brand out there or anything Wink

nannyl · 11/02/2011 09:06

I'm trying to step away from the ultra-early tests and to hold off until I'm within a day of my period (if not late). I've got three main reasons for this

  1. Its a sad fact that an awful lot of pregnancies don't last, and the earlier they're detected the lower the chance is that the pregnancy will make the distance. Before ultra-early tests became available few women would even realise they were pregnant before they had a spontaneous miscarriage around the time their period was due. Are we really better off for getting a +ve test when the odds of the pregnancy developing are still so poor?

  2. The rates at which hCG rises is very unpredictable, and will vary hugely by woman and even by pregnancy for the same woman. Getting a negative on an HPT doesn't mean you aren't pregnant, just that levels of hCG aren't high enough to detect in your urine yet. The earlier you test (even with an ultra-early test) the less likely you are to pick up a pregnancy that is viable. Too many -ve tests are depressing!

  3. it'll save a fortune!

That said, I've used the own-brand tests from here and always found them reliable (and at

I always waited 2 weeks after af was due, after i had had a number of -ve. Saved a fortune as af either came or found out was pg. It is the hardest wait, but also saved having bitter disappointment and upset by seeing the -ve. Sorry i sound so -ve myself but felt i learned the hard way to wait. It also depends how regular your periods are. I sometimes felt i was late because i'd started to convince myslef i was pg when i wasn't which didn't help either. Wait if you can and the surprise is always worht the wait too! honest.

This time I tested from CD21 (not sure when I ovulated) as I just felt pregnant and I got a faint BFP with an Asda test, then a BFP with a digi on CD23. I suspect I ovulated very early as this was my first cycle after a MC, when I got my BFP and my latest scans have shown I am a week ahead what I would have been had I ovulated on CD14.

I've done a ridiculous amount of tests this year, it can turn you into some sort of obsessive nutter!

Quenelle · 11/02/2011 11:11

I tested 4 days after my period was due. I'd tested on the day it was due a couple of times and had BFNs. I swore I wouldn't do another test until I was certain because I couldn't bear the disappointment.

Thank you. There is stuff here to have a good think about :) xx
