Just a normal pram/pushchair like they used to do.
Requirements are simple.

Must have handle that joins like a pram handle rather than pushchair.
would be willing to have the sort where its not separate carrycot, as long as it coverts into type that looks like it is.
Need smallish wheels as will be used mostly via public transport.

But all I keep seeing is really odd weird shape ones that for some reason remind me of fly's legs the way they join in the middle. It looks odd... The only type ones I can find, that anywhere near fits what I would like are really expensive or huge wheels :(

Not getting it till baby is here, but need some idea's and the websites don't help at all imo so any help would be gratefully received :)

Hi there, what about the m+p sola? That seems nice although I have no experience of it.

Or a m+p Luna? You can get a separate carrycot for it and it is fantastic to push!! I have this in cress and it folds up lovely and small so would be good for public transport if you ever needed to fold it when your lo is older. The Luna is currently on special for £125 from the m&p website I think. Sola is quite expensive unfortunately!!

I also have a silver cross linear freeway which is simply soooooper!! More for walking with than bus/train travelling with as quite big and bulky but I have used it on buses about 10times.

Hope this helps xxx :)

LovelyKatie · 10/02/2011 21:39

Im getting the silver cross surf which I think suits your requirements?

its got small wheels at the front and it doesnt have a carry cot attached. you have to buy that separately but it isnt needed.

it has a nest in it already.

I'll be using public transport too so its important that its quite compact.

good luck!

Sounds like you want the Bugaboo Bee. (if you have £500). It is tiny, though to be fir, thats why we didn't get one as I was worried baby would grow out of it too quick and we use the car rather than pubic transport. My friend has one though and loves it. No separate carrycot, single handle and sma;; wheels.

ThisFeelsWeird · 10/02/2011 23:07

Get the Bugaboo Bee. DS is 1 and stll has loads of growing room in it. They are fab, can't fault it, the best pram on public transport by far, easy to manoeuvre, so comfy for babies and really neat and tidy. Close to £500 once you've bought the cocoon, which is essential, but well worth it as you won't have to change to a MacLaren in six months like everyone else does!

EdwardorEricCantdecide · 11/02/2011 07:04

M&P pramettes are quite traditional looking and pushchair seat goes completely flat so looks like carrycot but not IYSWIM not sure about how they fold. I have quinny buzz wouldn't recommend!

MortaIWombat · 11/02/2011 07:12

Second M & P Pramette. Amazing thing. Not a fashion accessory though. Which is a Good Thing.

ThisFeelsWeird · 11/02/2011 08:09

3 friends of mine had M&P Pliko Pramettes and all ditched it for a MacLaren buggy at around 6 months. I remember thinking at the time that it lookd lovely and traditional but they clearly found fault with it. Definitely not one for public transport I would think.

Go to John lewis, they are great on prams.

HLSalter · 11/02/2011 09:49

We're getting the iCandy Cherry. We will be using public transport alot too. It's small and extremely lightweight. You have to buy the carrycot seperately but you also get adaptors so you can fit the maxi-cosi cabriofix car seat onto it.

Firawla · 11/02/2011 10:02

i had m&p pramette for my 1st, it was fine for public transport! there are some similar silver cross ones too, which the carry cot part does come off

SnapFrakkleAndPop · 11/02/2011 10:05

Baby jogger city mini - small wheels, single handle, can get a separate carrycot and ideal for public transport as super light and folds easily.

Crawling · 11/02/2011 10:15

I have had two gracos They are cheap and sturdy and I loved them. Also after 3 years use, a quick wash and apart from the wheels it looked new.

ipredicttrouble · 11/02/2011 10:17

Silver cross tend to still have some fairly traditional type ones.

I had a linea freeway which I think would suit your requirements.

flowerfairy · 11/02/2011 10:31

My mum was telling me about a friends daughter who had been to some second hand place-It could be st Catherine's hospice. If you are not set on having a brand new one then a second hand one maybe an option. DO you have any local independent baby shops near you?

midori1999 · 11/02/2011 10:35

Silver cross, Mamas and Papas and Emmaljunga do 'traditional' type prams with carrycots or seat units that convert into carrycots.

We have the Mamas and Papas Ultima on the x-cel chassis, which sounds similar to what you're after except it is huge, so not ideal for public transport. They do have a smaller type chassis for it though and the seat unit as well as the carrycot is also suitable from birth and the car seat fits on the chassis, which might make it easier for public transport?

LooL00 · 11/02/2011 11:12

M and p pliko pramette is great. Cute little pram and then turns into a nice pushchair. I would never ditch mine for a Maclaren as I like the way the harness on the m and P allows the LO to sit up rather than being dragged back into a sleeping position. The pliko pramette also stands up by itself when folded which is often handy. It is NOT one handed folding though.

mamadiva · 11/02/2011 11:14

Loola Up - Lays flat, faces either way, compact(ish) and folds with seat unit on.

Push me uno - Baby faces you to start and then it turns into a pushchair after a few months.

Luna - compact size, lays flat and can be used with a seperate carrycot .

tlise · 11/02/2011 15:19

Thanks for all the suggestions! They are great, will go through them carefully.

I didn't think about Mamas and Papas so thats definately well worth a look. After babies r us, mothercare and boots I ran out of ideas lol.

I don't have anywhere near us that I can get a good second hand one from unfortunately, but since this is definately final baby, want to get her a nice one, but without breaking the bank. Never had a nice pram before, as all the others were closer together and now they are all older.

Thanks again xx

HLSalter i would advise against the icandycherry if you are using public transport. You are often required to fold your pushchair and you can't do this without taking the body bit off the chassis. OK when its the car seat which you might just have on your lap but hopeless for the carrycot and seat unit. Where do you put them? It will take up too much room.

ShirtyGerty · 11/02/2011 19:01

iCandy Cherry does all that. Doesn't look weird either and is really light and easy to manouevre. Highly recommended.

Flisspaps · 11/02/2011 19:05

The Mothercare Trenton Deluxe has one handle (pram style), and a separate carrycot which fixes to the pushchair easily. Wheels aren't too big, and it can be folded down with one hand (although you have to detach the carrycot for this, but at least baby can stay in there then)

I've managed to get it on and off buses no problem and I have no spatial awareness at all.

Think it was less than £300 for the carrycot, pushchair and car seat.

HLSalter · 11/02/2011 21:23

Thanks for the advice. The village me and my partner live in only has a few bus routes and all of those are with the brand new lower buses which have fold down chairs with buggy priority at the front of the bus. If this had not been the case we would not have bought the carrycot and instead got the car seat adaptors. But luckily we have the new buses. For any longer journeys we will use the car anyway. Thank you though for the heads up though Grin
