Aching Legs

I am currently 15 weeks and for the past 5 or 6 weeks I have been suffering with really aching calves. I have tried bananas for the potassium but this hasn't worked.

I work 4 nights a week and I'm on my feet for at least 5 hours on these night, I wondered if this might be a factor and if so what might help.

It is driving me mad Hmm more uncomfortable than totally painful. Its making me want to cry every time I sit down Sad.

Sorry about the moaning. Really want a Wine

try leaning up against the wall bending forwards with your hands on the wall, arms straight and stretch your calves. But really you should nt be standing for too long, need to sit down sometimes.

What job do you do?

Hi greenzebra I am Bar manager. I sit down when I get a chance but most nights it's too busy. My legs seem worse the nights I'm not at work.

Maybe use heat treatment on them to take away some of the ache like those microwavable bags or you can get these reusable pouches from the chemist that I used on my back when I pulled a muscle pregnant with number 2! It'll be your hormones relaxing all your muscles, it'll come back but you must take it easy! If you don't repair them if their damaged it may be very hard to until the end of your pregnancy. X x x good luck x x x

Do you get restless legs too? I suffered really badly with achey and restless legs during my last two pregnancies. I had a cooling spray and sometimes a warm bath helped, but unfortunately it didn't go until after the babies were born with me. I do feel for you as it's horrible x

I really suffered so I used the wooden massager and leg gel with horse chestnut in from the body shop, it really helped.

Also, this might be more difficult cause of your job but when on your break try to get your legs elevated, put up with the looks because it really helps.

I'm 27 weeks now and it has abated a bit, seemed worse earlier on as I was moving house but you really need to rest or you will get varicous veins. I have a few veiney patches on my legs but the gel seemed to help with those and they haven't got worse.

God pregnancy sucks hey !

water, water, and more water helped me. i was already regularly eating bananas, so they didn't seem to help much.
good luck!

I know it's not very good to advise drinking during pregnancyBlush...but I was suffering terribly from restless/aching legs a couple of weeks ago, hadn't slept a wink and crying every day from exhaustion.

Tried bananas, drinking more water, cool packs- basically everything that was advised.

Then came across some research a doc had written on restless legs in non pregnant women- stating that a glass of wine before bed, preferably red has been proven to ease symptoms considerably. So I tried it, when my symptoms were REALLY bad.

In short- it worked! Obviously, try not to make it a habit...but even one small glass
of red wine a week, has been proven to help with restless legs and won't have a damaging effect of your babba(in such a small quantity).

It's an option. Good-luck! I feel your painSad

Thanks for the advice everyone. I will be trying each one out.Grin

Leilababyno1 I have heard a small glass of red wine to increase circulation i know a women who went into labour at 24 weeks which they managed to stop, but while she was in hospital the nurses recommend a small glass of red wine every night to help increase blood flow to baby Shock. Will def be trying it tonight, I have a 7 hour shift tonight and am lacking in sleeping after aching legs all through the night.
