Irregular baby movements - is this normal?

Hi, i'm 30wks pg and getting a bit worried about such irregular baby movements. I get about 2-3 days where baby moves virtually non-stop with episodes of big kicks early morning and mid evening this is followed by another 2-3 days where I hardly feel any movement at all, just a bit of 'fluttering'. It's been like this since I started to feel baby move at about 24weeks. I am due for a routine check up next week so will mention it to the doctor but am starting to get rather worried now and would l like to know if anyone else has experienced anything similar. Thanks

It won't hurt to ask but it could just be to do with where your placenta is and what position the baby is in. If the placenta is at the front it can really muffle the movements.

Thanks weefriend that makes sense and makes me feel a bit more reassured. I think the placenta is anterior which is why it took me so long to feel movements in the first place.

My baby does this. She'll move and kick almost constantly for a couple of days and then seems to have a day off! Like you on the 'off' days I feel fluttering. My midwife advised that it is a combination of the baby's position and is often that I think I feel less movement on days that I am very busy or physically active. As long as I can still feel flutters she said not to worry. I'm 38 wks btw.

I am in exaclt the same position as you! I first felt movements at 23-24/20 and am now 30/40 and ofte feel very little. I know that my placenta is anterior but what worried me the other day is I went from feeling things to feeling little or nothing. I took myself along to the antenatal day care unit and they hooked me up to a CTG monitor which showed that baby is moving- I just can't always feel it. That said, it was lovely lying still for a 30 mins and concenttrating on baby's wiggles as he or she was moving a lot more than I realise when I'm on the go! The staff were lovely and very reassuring and told me I'd done the right thing by coming in. So if you are worried in a no movement period, don't hesitate to call your booking hospital and to go in for a wee check over. At very least it will be lovely to hear the heartbeat again.

This baby and my first both had/have anterior placentas. My middle one didn't and it is amazing the difference that it makes. If you are worried do get checked though. That can never hurt.

Hi, thanks for your replys, had a check-up with doctor and all is fine. Just told I have to lay on my left side after meals and count even tiny movements and as long as there are 10/hr no need to worry - not sure how to find time to lay down for an hour afer each meal but at least it's reassuring to know everything is fine!

Mine was like this. It is worrying. now she has got into the pattern where she sleeps in late and moves all night :(

I get this too, for the last few days seems to have been some kind of rave going on in there, whereas today it seems to be taking it a bit easier, it is worrying but then I am still having some movement so trying not to get too distressed. I do wonder if the baby has just worn itself out and now needs a bit of a rest.

I'm 30+6 and have an interior placenta.

I'm 31 weeks and also have an anterior placenta. My baby has a day or two of being quite active followed by a few very quiet days. I had an antenatal appointment today and told my midwife about not having a regular pattern, so she phoned up the hospital and sent me for CTG monitoring. They were lovely and all is well Smile. If I'm ever worried she said to go in to get things checked out. If you need to go in more than once they also do a scan. I was told to ignore comments from others who have lots of strong movement as every baby is different, what matters is what's normal for your baby.
