DH, my 11 month old girl and I were just in an accident. DH went to pull out at a roundabout and noticed a motorcycle coming speeding around so had to brake quite suddenly. The car behind went slamming into us. Their car was severely mashed and we sustained a lot of damage ourselves. Husband has whiplash in neck and back. LO was really shocked and screaming for ages but we managed to calm her down and now she seems fine. I am concerned about being 11 1/2 weeks pregnant and any damage to my baby. I am rhesus negative and MW said if I was 12 weeks they would give me anti-D due to possible abdomen damage, but I am just a little too early. She has booked me in for an emergency scan tomorrow morning so I hope all will be OK. Have mild abdomen cramps but no bleeding. Can anyone give me reassurance that baby will be OK?

You all need to go and see a doctor today. Chances are you are ok and you're baby is ok but you should all be checked very carefully. Apart from anything else you were hit from behind and that car should not have done that - what ever your dh did they should have allowed more space - and slowed down. Potentially you may suffer the after effects of this for a long time and your insurers will pursue that.

Go and get a medical opinion this afternoon or tomorrow at the latest as well as your scan. When you get the scan I would ask for another opinion about the anti d too.

Agree with NL, go to A&E now. Hopefully all will be ok, the cramps could very well be stress after the crash, but please see a doctor today.

i was rhesus negative, 37weeks when a stupid woman went into back of me
everything was absolutely fine. if you are worried go and get checked out.
i think the appointment tomorrow is fine unless you get any pains, bleeding in which case go down asap.

I am guessing if your DH has a diagnoses of whiplash, then there was a doctor involved somewhere, did he/she not check you out?

emoo777 · 08/02/2011 18:10

DH has not been officially diagnosed - he just has pain in his neck and back. We had no doctor/ police at the scene - just exchanged insurance details and moved on as were on busy roundabout and both cars were still working. DH is insurance broker so took his judgement as to what to do (and unlike me he has been in accidents before).

I will go to early pregnancy unit first thing tomorrow (8:30am) as midwife suggested to get checked out. Thanks for all of your advice. Just had 12 week scan on friday and had finally stopped worrying Sad

Please don't worry - I know that's easily said. My mum crashed the car with me as a passenger taking full blow when I was 6 wks pregnant (he is fine!) and I crashed the car at 39 wks pregnant (she is fine!). Assume the best until you know one way or another.

I was hit by another car when I was 17 weeks. I went to a and e but all was well. Dr just had a good poke about and said any bleeding or sharp pains and go back.

Always best to get checked out tho! :)

trixie123 · 08/02/2011 18:53

hope all is well with the scan tomorrow. I am sure it will be. If you are worried for the future my MW suggested a seatbelt thing that holds the lap belt down across your thighs rather than on the bump. Its made by clippasafe I think and I got it in john lewis. Best wishes for the scan Smile

Emoo I have no expertise or experience whatsoever, but I just want to reassure you that babies are very well "padded" inside us, and our bodies are designed to take all manner of blows to protect them. I suspect that if you're feeling okay, the baby probably is too.

Of course, listen to all medical advice etc - but just offering some reassurance. HUG :)

Elsa123 · 08/02/2011 23:25

Your LO will be really well padded. I had a crash at 20 weeks. Classic seat belt injuries to shoulder and tummy. Baby fine. My muscles tightened instantly and I felt her move (I appreciate you won't have this reassurance). I hope you manage to get some sleep and good luck with the scan.

Surprised they have put this off till tomorrow, I would have gone straight up to A&E and spat my dummy out until someone saw me. Good luck for tomorrow, I hope everything goes well.

Good luck!

LaWeaselMys · 09/02/2011 00:56

emoo - I had similar. Well actually I was a pedestrian hit by a very very slow moving bus at about 11ish weeks iirc. Hmm

When I came in the next day for a scan the midwives were really miffed A&E hadn't sent me for a scan after checking for concussion. I heard heartbeat and baby was fine, they said at this stage there is loads of padding in the womb and it was unlikely anything would have happened but they would have wanted me in earlier just to ease my mind!

Good luck tomorrow and hope everything is well.

Saggyoldclothcatpuss · 09/02/2011 09:24

At 11/12 weeks, your uterus is still within your pelvis, and very hard to damage.
I was in the middle of a fairly slow moving but still dramatic six car pile up, when I was about 7 months. The reaction, when I got out of the car was quite entertaining! Even the police officer present was rushing round like a mother hen! I felt fine, baby was moving, and I had no pain, so i just went home! My doctor told me off for not getting checked out, but everything was fine.
The scariest Part was that I'd been knitting in the car, and I'd just put it away. Two minutes more, and I'd have ended up with a needle up the nose! Grin

Thanks everyone for your reassurance - it was nice to read before the long wait at the hospital. Well, at EPU I had a scan and there is still a heartbeat so that is great. The sonographer was litterally in a panic because they were so busy and her hands were shaking! She was incredibly quick (I only saw the screen for a few seconds)and when I asked about placental abruption she mumbled something about the placenta still attaching between 9 and 12 weeks so didn't check it.. So I feel happier than I was but not 100% reassured. I think if I am worried for any reason in a couple of weeks time I may even consider paying for a private scan.
Thanks again for your support.
