Blush

OK, so OH was over this weekend and we did it for the first time since Christmas (he works abroad). The next morning there was blood on the sheets and quite a bit when I wiped and in the toilet - all bright red. But no pain at all.

I rested all day and it had all but stopped before lunchtime. I know I should have rung MW - but I really hate bothering people. I am over 13w but have been able to feel and see movement for a bit (due to problems with stomach muscles I think) and this has happened since saturday.

I am seeing the consultant on wednesday anyways, so will def talk with him about this then.

Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else? And whether you found out the reasons for it eventually?

You ought to call your midwife. Also, I can't imagine how you can feel and see movement at 13 weeks Hmm

Deliaskis · 07/02/2011 17:25

I had a very small amount of spotting after sex at around that stage, but it was really a tiny bit of pink stuff only when I wiped. It wouldn't have been enough to be on the sheets IYSWIM. A very small amount is not unusual, if you think you may have more than that then call your midwife to discuss.

I had the same (twice). Didn't call MW because it stopped straight away, so was just due to the "vigorous" Blush sex. But this weekend started bleeding a little (not after sex) so went to the hospital and they had a look. Baby is fine and cervix closed but possible issue with cervix/placenta so I have to "take it easy" until my 21 week scan on Friday.

See what your consultant says, but when I went in to the hospital, the first question they asked (after "have you got your notes?") was "have you recently had sex?" so I reckon it's quite common.

Thank you CitizenOscar and Deliaskis. That sounds quite familiar - I thought they'd just ask me if I'd had sex and say there's nothing they can do now it's stopped with no pain and I'd be wasting their time. I would contact MW if the bleeding came 'from nowhere'.

KikiJane - this is my third pregnancy. I know what I am feeling. I have a stomach muscle separation which is already over 2inches/4 finger widths after DC2. I can see something the baby is pushing make my stomach rise and move around (am sure it can't be the actual baby?!) and have been able to for a few weeks. I can even push it back down! I don't need your patronizing Hmm face, thanks.

(sorry - tired pg woman alert!)

Erm, sorry but this happened to me with dc2 and 3 and each time I was told to go to hospital for a scan. Cause you could have placental problems even if little one is ok. So I would not just be taking it easy. And your mw is there to be bothered. I would check it out for peace of mind tbh. Hope all is well.

Annabel7 · 07/02/2011 18:53

I had this with both my pregnancies as placenta was low (moved up with the first but didn't with the second so had to have a c-section). When i rang nhs direct they sent me directly to hospital each time to get checked. They usually keep you in until you haven't bled for at least 24 hrs.

It's probably nothing (particularly if it was just after sex) but don't worry about bothering people and please do get it checked out to be on the safe side...

KikiJane · 07/02/2011 19:23

Wow. Ok. Whatever you say. Hope you're ok.

captainbarnacle · 07/02/2011 20:39

Thanks - am not too worried as baby moved again a lot after tea this evening. Just not sure why it's happening. I asked about the placenta position at the 12w scan but they weren't concerned.

Anyway, not seeing OH for another couple of months so hoping it doesn't happen again ;)

I mentioned it to consultant today - he seemed so little concerned about it I've been signed off now and just have midwife led care :) Heard the heartbeat clearly so all's well. Midwife said it was a breath of fresh air that I hadn't gone straight to the hospital, but not to be afraid of going if I'm ever really worried.

Glad all is well :)

barnacle this has happened to me 3 times after sex - not just a tiny pinkish amount but enough to soak knickers. Went into EPU first 2 times as it was before 12 weeks then to casulty the 3rd time as there was a fair bit of blood and having had a m/c in the past was worried it was the beginning of that. Was scanned (after 4hrs waiting with no food, faiting, being on oxygen etc) and all was good.

Happened again for no reason so was just told to take it easy for a week or so, no hoovering or sex or picking other DC's up etc. Have had sex since then a few times and nothing has happened. Was told by doc that I was "very vascular". I guess that means an "easy bleeder". I always bleed when having a smear, btw.

I'm sure it's nothing but do keep an eye on it.

bluebeach · 10/02/2011 12:40

I had this too at 10 weeks, enough blood to soak a sanitary towel. I had a scan though and everything was fine. Seems as though your consultant thinks so too so thats great. Swore off sex for the whole 2nd trimester but back on it now at 37 weeks to see if it hurries things along!

captainbarnacle · 10/02/2011 13:51

Thanks - it's good to hear am not alone. Had heard of spotting after sex, but this was a gush of blood and enough to wear a pad for a few hours. OH is away for a couple of months so have time without sex :)

This is my 3rd pregnancy though - nothing at all like this before. I will get them to check and double check placenta position at 20w scan I think.
