pregnant and tonsilitis

I found out I was pregnant on friday at the same time as realising I had full blown tonsilitis, fever, headache, aches, the lot. I'm worried because I am such an inhospitable host right now, and I've suffered a miscarriage in the past due to Chicken Pox. I've got the antibiotics and am taking them because I can barely swallow, and I have a 14 month old to look after as well. Any advice on how to get better quickly, or similar experiences?

I used to get tonsilitis quite a lot, and was advised by my GP to gargle with salt water (rather than TCP or anything else as the bacteria can become immune to it), it really does help to kill the infection around the tonsils.

It tastes foul, but I've found that it really does work for me. As soon as I get a feeling my tonsils are swelling, I gargle, and I haven't had full blown tonsilitis
since using this trick.

As your tonsilitis is so advanced, I don't think this will fix the fever I'm afraid....

Oh you poor thing! I had a fluey virus over the weekend (not flu as I've had the jab) and felt dreadful, so can't imagine how you must been feeling.

You can take paracetamol, which may make swallowing easier. It will also keep your temperature down, which is important if you are in the early stages of pregnancy.

Try to keep hydrated. I had a really sore throat but found ice lollies (the pure orange juice ones) really soothing. I had seven on Saturday!

Hope you feel better soon....

Hi, thanks, lxr I did try gargling with salt but it didnt do anything! How much salt should I use?!

I've always stuck to a heaped teaspoon in a mug of boiled water (well 1/2 boiled to dissolve the salt then 1/2 cold, so as to not burn the back of your throat!).

Really hope this works for you.

Oh and repeat 2-3 times per day.
