Pregnancy

Talk about every stage of pregnancy, from early symptoms to preparing for birth.

So alcohol is BAD in pg but lots of us still have the odd glass. Day Nurse-type meds also BAD in pg, but could I just have the odd dose?

Have a stinker of a cold, feeling miserable & it's my birthday tomorrow.

I would love just to take even one dose of Day Nurse & make myself feel slightly better for a few hours tomorrow. How bad is it really?

I mean, i sit here and have a small glass of wine every now and then when pregnant & I know it's not ideal

Just how unideal is Day Nurse?

I had a horrific flu over xmas and new year for 3 weeks - i took a full day of day nurse and night nurse because i was sooo sick of being ill!

i have to admit i felt pretty guilty but i'd got a bit beyond caring (I'm not a bad person!!)

Probably not helping with official advice but thats how i felt.

Thanks Lynzi :)

Still dithering, i probably will go with inertia and not take any but it would be nice to get some reassurance that it's not that bad.

i'd be concerned not just about the alcohol but about the other ingredients too.

Hi I think your best checking what it actually contains because you can't take things with asprin in as it can do something to babys heart (midwife told me once but can't remember what).
If its just another one of those many many things that they say you can't have because your pregnant then I'd have some. A lot of things say do not take in pregnancy but its more to do with the fact that you can't test on a pregnant lady so they have never had it tested if that makes sense.
Hope you feel better soon. X

there are 3 main ingredients in Day Nurse;

paracetamol - fine to take in pg in low doses/moderation

Pseudoephedrine hydrochloride - not ideal in 1st trimester according to one website i saw (I'm 29+6 so not a problem)

Pholcodine - no comments on safety in pg that i can see.

so according to 'electronic Medicines Compendium' I should be ok...

Too be honest I'd take it. I'm not big on following the endless rules anyway tho so you'll prob get loads telling you not to but a dose will be fine and make you feel so much better. And it won't make you a awful mum :)

JustKeepSwimming · 05/02/2011 18:36

Thanks Scouse, i might see it as a treat to myself to feel better for just a few hours on my birthday, i obv won't get into the habit of every 4 hours (as i would if not pg/bf).

Lolajane - i'm very careful about my alcohol intake when pg, aside from not really liking it much anyway, just fancy the odd small glass every now and then, plus a small glass of bubbly at Christmas/NY type things.

OK I am not saying this is a good idea but I didn't know I was pregnant until 5 1/2 weeks and in that time suffered so badly from a cough I overdosed on nightnurse for two weeks. Bit worried but midwife said it should be OK. NOT that I would recommend doing this! It was also over christmas and I drank a lot. I think if you take a small amount once when you really feel the need. If something says categorically not to take during pregnancy I wouldn't though.

Thanks emoo :)

Well I've taken some :)

May allow myself another dose later then back to being a martyr tomorrow!
