18+3 with DC2 but hardly feeling any movement - if at all - normal?

I'm sure when I was pregnant with DS, I felt that bubbly movement sensation from 16 weeks onwards.

But this time, despite obviously being my second pregnancy, I've hardly felt a thing. I sometimes think I might have felt something but nothing much. TBH, I'm really not sure it's anything at all. Last time, after about a week of being uncertain, it was obvious that's what it was and it just got bigger and more frequent.

Saw the Dr last week who felt my abdomen and said all felt ok but didn't try to listen for a heartbeat.

Can someone please reassure me that this is normal?!

I'm nearly twenty weeks and haven't felt anything. From everything I've read it is completely normal and lots of people don't feel anything until 22 weeks.

I'm wondering whether your Placenta is Anterior? At my 20 week scan mine was marked as "anterior high" which I understand can act as a cushion when baby kicks meaning you may feel it less. I may be wrong but that could be the reason? Can you wait for your 20 week scan to find out if this may be the cause?

Failing that you are well within your rights to request further checks before then, a simple MW appt would put your mind at rest as they could check babies heartbeat?

Good luck X

I had an anterior placenta with my first baby & didn`t feel anything until 21 weeks.

With this baby I didn`t feel anything until 22 weeks, my placenta is anterior again & low.

Try not to worry.

Thank you all. My next scan is on the 21st so not too long to wait.

I have read about anterior placentas - but I guess I wouldn't know about that until the next scan, would I?

i was just thinking the same thing i'm 19 weeks 3rd pregnancy and been worrying that this baby isn't moving as i've always felt them much earlier than this. There seems to be so much variation from mum to mum but also from pregnancy to pregnancy.
I'm sure all is ok but it's hard not to compare to previous pregnancies and worry. Speak to your midwife if you are really worried I'm sure she'll check for a heartbeat and that will make you feel better.
Personally just knowing other second and 3rd time mums sometimes don't feel movement until later has reassured me.

JoyceBarnaby · 05/02/2011 20:20

Yes, cornishshelley, it has reassured me - so often you hear that 2nd/3rd time mums feel movements earlier, it's good to know that's it not always the case!

I will still worry a bit but am going to wait until scan. Thanks again all.

No you won't find out until the next scan. Anterior Placenta are normal just a few of us feel less/later movement thanks to them, and I'm pg with my 4th so it can happen to any of us. X

17weeks now and could feel some slight movements a week or so ago, now nothing! Which worries me even more im pg with dc4 so did expect to feel movements earlier. But who knows!
