Nightmares

They are doing my head in.

Last night was a miscarraige one and it took me at least 45 sitting in my bed telling myself 'it wasn't real, it wasn't real.'

A few nights ago I dreamt my charming grandfather mowed everyone down with a rifle.

Its crazy (I am laughing about it now ... kind of), but they are just horrible!

Anyone else.

And do they get better or worse as the pregnancy goes (am 16 weeks)!

oh bless you. Can't offer any advice really, i suffer from terrible night terrors normally and they just stop when i'm pregnant! My night terrors are always worse if i'm over tired though, maybe that might help.

I sympathise, I've had these too,(19 weeks)since the early days. the miscarriage one is a recurrant dream for me. The only thing I can say is keep telling yourself it's just a dream and it is NOT real. I talk to my husband about them and he is really good at reassuring me. They are horrible though and I hope they get better soon.

ThatllDoPig · 05/02/2011 10:46

I know. I had a horrible on the other day about a dead baby. Cried when I woke up and felt 'haunted' the whole day by the despair.
I tell myself it is just my brain playing tricks and processing worst fears. It is easier to dream and to remember because sleep is so disturbed up and down to the loo and not getting comfy.
Are you having any good ones to make up for it? Vivid dreams can go either way!

Mahraih · 05/02/2011 11:43

Seems pretty normal to have nasty/weird dreams. Mine started off as horrid miscarriage dreams, and are not just surreal (clearly the mind gets inventive in late pregnancy).

I had a dream that baby was born premature, and so had to be kept in a 2-litre bottle of lemonade, in which the lemonade served as amniotic fluid that kept him alive. We just ... carried him around in the lemonade, and he was hideous.

And the dream where baby was born, but was the size of a spider, with six legs, and scuttled around everywhere incredibly quickly. We lost him in our bed, and DP squished him, so we had to flush him down the loo.

Darlingdamsel - talk to someone about the dreams, it's the quickest way to come back 'down to earth' as it were, and feel reassured.

Teladi · 05/02/2011 11:48

It is not just me then! I had one the other night where the baby was born and went out for a walk with it in my arms, but I couldn't support its neck properly and its head was bobbling all over the place like one of those wobble dog things you get for your car. It sounds silly but it was horrible. I am 12 weeks.

I am sorry you are all having these as well but knowing it is not just me makes me feel a bit better!

ThatllDoPig · 05/02/2011 11:49

Last pregnancy I dreamt I gave birth to a fully grown rat.

Darlingdamsel · 05/02/2011 11:59

Oh my! Glad its not just me (although I really would not want to wish these things on anyone).

Last night I miscarried in the loo except that the baby was wrapped in something and I was trying to pursuade the doctor (who showed up out of no where) to put it back in me or least tell me it was going to be ok living in the loo?

Crazy, crazy, crazy (even the doctor thought so).

I wonder where they will go over the next 24 weeks now.

Totally normal - I had some horrible dreams, including ones about miscarrying and others about things happening to my DD. It all seems so real at the time. Luckily, these dreams started to become less frequent towards the end of my pg and I'm now 38 weeks and haven't had one for a while.
I'm sure it's just anxiety and tiredness - maternity leave has helped too!
I agree with the posters saying talk to someone about them - it made me feel loads better.
Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy! :)

Scouseem · 05/02/2011 14:23

I had a awful dream that we lost our baby and the doctors were just sayin 'oh well you'll just have to get over it' I woke up in tears and was convinced it was real and took DP well over a hour to make me realise it wasn't real :(
Damn these hormones.

TanteRose · 05/02/2011 14:33

oh yes, I dreamed I gave birth to a stick insect, and was trying to breastfeed it...Confused

meanwhile everyone was saying "you have to throw it away" and I was sobbing "I can't, its my BABY" aarrrhhh

another one was that I gave birth, and the baby immediately started growing freakishly big, and it turned into DH before my eyes...Shock

these are all 13 years ago, and I remember them quite vividly...

highheelsandequations · 05/02/2011 15:12

I'm 17 weeks, the other night I dreamt we had the baby but it turned into a goldfish and I kept managing to kill her by not looking after her properly. Have also regularly been waking up in the middle of the night 'seeng' monsters coming into the bedroom to steal my baby. DP thinks I'm going mad, but does look after me during the hysterical screaming fits. Glad I'm not the only one.

clouiseg · 05/02/2011 17:06

Oh my and there was I thinking my dreams meant I was going wibble! lol. Thank god for mumsnet!

Am 26 weeks with DC4 and having the most disturbing dreams EVER...from my house being broken into while I'm in it, to getting into a trolley to give birth in the middle of my local tesco (!!???) or the worst - DH being unfaithful! As a result I actually went about the house in a real mood the other day because I had dreamt that hahaaa! They are very vivid and very disturbing but I'm certain that talking about it to someone who is trustworthy (and wont post it on facebook for a giggle!) is a very good idea!

I did read somewhere that the massive surge of pregnancy hormones has an effect on your dreams so we are all normal! Grin

Darlingdamsel · 05/02/2011 20:20

Ladies, you make me feel much better. And is it horrible to say that I actually had a good giggle on some of them (so sorry). Only 24 more week to go ...

Yep, thank God for Mumsnet.

Smile.

I had so many dreams with blood in the first few weeks, it was really horrible. Now they're just weird, and I remember them at random times of day. Have also been dreaming about guns, although that is probably because we had armed police on our street last Sunday arresting someone! Not a normal occurance, was most dramatic.

Hope yours improve soon :)
