In london not uncommon to have 3 or 4 mums per class who were in 40s when having first child, even up to say 43 for 2nd or 3rd. What is it like in other places, how common is it? As someone just 43, who has found our shei is preg with no 3 ( DD1 = 6, DD2=4) and who may want ot move out, just wanted to know if I would be an outcast? Sorry if I sound a bit"london centric" but a friend of mine moved ot a small village and found all the other mums wre about 25.

Mmm, would definitely say it's much more common in and around London. I lived in Twickenham and was concerned at 38 to be having my 3rd but midwife there told me I was the youngest she'd seen that day!
I am now 40 and pregnant with number 4 and we moved away about 3 years ago. I do have a number of friends who have young children (much more than I had in London!) and some friends who are expecting too, which is lovely but I am totally the oldest!! I sometimes get bothered by it but I honestly don't think any of them really notice as long as I keep up with dying my roots!! I think I probably look a couple years younger than my age, try to dress reasonably, etc. Basically though, I have found the ladies/girls here to be so nice, I have made so many lovely friends, I am totally, totally happy with the choice we made to move away, I love it here! There are also some 'older mums' dotted around my older childrens' classes and I am very friendly with them too but I don't think it's because of our age, some people you just get on with. I have been very lucky with our move and wouldn't change a thing.

Good luck with your pregnancy and your possible future move!

Hi, I'm 39 and pg with no.3. My two are 8 & 6. I live in a seaside town in Wales and almost all of my friends are about the same age as me, and a few are older.

We have our share of younger mums here too, but everyone in our "group" is the same age and there are plenty of us (in our mid 30's to mid 40's). We all have at least 2 DC's.

Birds of a feather flock together and all that.

Hi
I'm nearly 40 and TTC - have two DS's, aged 5 and 2.5 and am definately not the oldest mum in the playground, up here in the West Midlands! You won't find yourself an outcast - there are plenty of us everywhere who started our families later for a variety of reasons, and I know most of us wouldn't have had it any other way! Good luck with everything.

Actually, what girlfromdownsouth says is totally true, you do tend to hang around with the ones in yor age bracket, so actually, when I really think about it,there are plenty of younger mums here in london, its just that I do not really know them, although yuo are also right about just hitting it off, as I spend a fair bit of time wth a 29 yr old - it seems ot start with sam age kids and then if you get on you stick, even if age difference - I guess Iknow I will look like its grandma at the scho gatges, whereas with other two, at 36 adn 38, will never be mistaken for grandma, just bit older mum. Just should feel v pleased that am preg.
