Anterior placentas?

The baby movements thread has got me thinking. I've read on here that if you have an anterior placenta you may not feel baby move as strongly as others. I do get some powerful movements now and again but a lot of the time it's barely noticeable. Now on my notes I'm down as having an anterior high placenta and I assumed that if it was high I'd still get quite obvious movements. Am I wrong?

My placenta is anterior and high. I am 18+5 and have been feeling movement for a few weeks now. However, I had a scan yesterday and it became obvious I certainly can't feel most of the movements yet, so it must just be the real wriggley ones I can.

Hi
I am 21wks and have been aware of popping and rolling movements for a few weeks. In the past week there have been definite kicks around lower areas but not higher up. In my scan yesterday the placenta is shown as being high anterior right and that would explain it. It is acting a bit like a cushion I guess. What I assumed were kicks low down were actually punches yesterday when we saw bub on the scan upside down.
So in answer to your question - from my current experience there is a complete lack of movement sensation in the placental area but I can feel movement lower down away from the placenta
How many weeks are you?

I have an anterior placenta and I've been feeling loads of kicks because the baby has been facing my right hand side. I think he/she has turned around a bit now though because I'm not feeling as much.

I have an anterior placenta and it's actually been a godsend when I hear about other people being kept awake through the night! Jasmine51 I also thought I was feeling kicks as could only feel anything down low - but Dr said they're fully engaged so it must be punches! I'm now 37 weeks and waiting....

Mine is anterior - the doc warned me at my 12 week scan that I might not feel movement for longer than others at the same stage as it was like having a beanbag for the baby to kick at between its feet and my nerves! Was a bit gutted but glad to know that up front, hopefully will stop me stressing :)

With my middle child the placenta was low posterior and with my other two high anterior. Not only did I feel him move more than the other two, I could see him move far more-especially in the bath.

With my first pregnancy my placenta was anterior, and at about 25 weeks we had a mad dash to hospital because I hadn't felt anything, not a sausage, no fluttering..... Nada, Niente, for a whole day. Turned out my daughter was kicking into the placenta, and that's why I couldn't feel it! When I was hooked up the the fetal heart monitor I could certainly HEAR her kicking though! :) Midwife suggested drinking ice cold water or juice as that sometimes forces them to move, and start kicking elsewhere!

With this pregnancy, I have an anterior high placenta, and feel movements every day now (25 weeks) mostly lower down than anything. Am much more relaxed if a few hours pass and I don't feel anything this time around.

However, and I can't stress this enough... Anterior placenta or not if you are AT ALL worried about a reduction in baby movement, or lack of... Call your midwife right away and get checked!

Good luck with your pregnancy!

I have an anterior placenta and only feel movement in certain areas although I get (nearly 30weeks) more stretching/pushing movements over my whole abdomen now.

CalaLilly · 04/02/2011 18:37

I have a high anterior placenta too and didn't feel any movements until 23/40 when I went straight to kicks. I actually spent 30 mins hooked up to a CTG monitor to check baby's movements today as I'd barely felt much for days. Turns out baby is now head down (at 29/40) and kicking against my placenta which is like a big cushion at the top front of my uterus. That said, when I sat down for 30 mins and focused on my baby I felt it wiggling lots. The movements are gentle but definitely there! Now I know not to worry and to enjoy the fact that baby can't kick and keep me awake like other beans Smile

I have a HAP too, and although I didn't start feeling anything real until 22 weeks, since it's not been a problem and have felt lots.

Thanks all for your answers. I am 22+3 and I do feel mild movements to the sides and some down low so I'm certainly not worried. I had naively assumed that being high would also mean feeling more movements than just an anterior placenta. I have to say last night when I went to bed last night she was letting herself be known for about ten mins or so. :-)
