hello,

I know there have been countless threads on this but I can't find them... just had my combined test results back (after 2 wke wait! Got a 1:300 risk of downs - is that ok?

for my prev children I had the tests done at Kings, where they gave you the results right away, and the form is much clearer, splitting the tris 21,and tris 13/18 scores (what ever they are), giving you the background risk and then the adjusted risk.
This form gives the measurements and I assume the blood results but then just says risk of downs 1:300.... should go for further testing?
thanks

Hospitals normally ring the people they consider to have a high risk result and post the ones they consider to be low risk.

1:300 is 0.3% if I've done my maths right :)

Hope this helps but if you have any worries do, please, talk to your MW or hospital. :)

it doesn't sound so scary when you percentage it - I think though it was because my last ones were in the thousands, although I must say Kings was a lot more thorough

Mine is 1:524 but was 1:1600 with DD 3 years ago. I'm 29 yo.

It's too low for an amnio so just got to wait it out. Just had 20 week scan and all looked normal so that's somewhat reassuring.

My thoughts were that my risk of downs is 0.2% but the risk of a miscarriage with amnio can be 1% so it didn't make sense for me to go for a private one.

Your risk is still so low but I know what you mean, you compare to others or your own past one(s) and it's scary.

I'm 42, so I was expecting a worse result - but from reading other threads it would appear that those who opt for further tests are at a much higher risk so I'm going to think postive thoughts

Your odds are very good, but rather than look at the numbers you need to think about how important it is to you to avoid a chromosomal abnormality.

I also had the tests at King's which gave a 1:1589 chance of Down's. Well, that 1 was us but we didn't find out until after DS was born. We didn't have amnio or cvs because, as others said, the risk of mc was greater than the likelihood that the baby had an abnormality. I love DS to bits and feel equipped to cope with whatever needs he will have but if I had known at 12 weeks I would at that point in time have terminated.

King's do cvs or amnio for anyone who wants it btw, whatever your odds.

A good friend got a 1 in 2 last year, they had amnio and after 2 weeks were told everything was 'normal', all was ok for them....I got bad news at 23 weeks (not DS), completely unexpected and wish I had known earlier. ending it all at that stage was not good. If you are worried get tested now, otherwise enjoy your pregnancy and good luck.
