Reduction in movement

Hi

I'm 38 weeks pregnant and for the last couple of days the baby hasn't been moving around as much. Should I be worried about this?

Last night in the bath I could see it moving but not really feel it so I wonder if it's just because the baby's moved round a bit and is now kicking the placenta instead of me.

Is it worth phoning the MW? TIA.

Hi EauRouge [waves from Feb thread],

I am sure you have nothing to worry about, especially if you can see movements but not feel them. However, they do say if you notice a change then give them a call. If nothing else, I am sure they will put your mind at rest, and they might get you in for a scan if they think there's anything to worry about.

I a sure you're fine though, baby will probably just be kicking you somewhere less sensitive!

Hi Delia

Typical, in the 10 minutes since I posted this I've been getting the poo kicked out of me Hmm Grin I think I will keep track of movements just in case. DD never stopped moving and she's still like it now, so maybe this baby will be more sedate

Aha there you go! Baby must be very clever if s/he can read mn already!

I notice movements a lot more when I am still, and have had a couple of days where I have driven home from a (busy) day at work feeling slightly worried, then lain on the sofa and suddenly it's like horseguards parade!

Hiya D and Eau I have also noticed a slight decrease in movements over yesterday, and this morning, am heading out to sit in hairdressers for a few hours so no doubt will be kicking me black and blue the whole time. Speak to to you later

I experienced a reduction in movement at 38 weeks and was extremely worried.

I was so concerned and could not get hold of my midwife, I followed the instructions in my maternity notes and called the hospital for advice. They asked me to come in, where they did a quick scan (baby had turned inward), checked the fluid level and put me on monitor for a while. During this time only one movement was recorded but heartbeat was regular. I went home feeling a bit better and later that evening I started to feel movement again.

It's not worth getting stressed if you think there is a problem, there is always a midwife at hospital to call upon. They told me to go back later that day or at any time I was concerned.

I had a reduction in movements over 3 days - got told off for not coming into hospital sooner! They hooked me up to a monitor with belts that seny Baby crazy for half an hour - very reassuring.

If it's a reduction over 24 hours, you should give them a call. And, if you're feeling at least 10 kicks per day, it should be fine, apparently.

They said a slight decrease is pretty normal as pregnancy goes on - less space - but kept emphasising, "If it's unusual for you, it's unusual, so call us."

Second everyone else, always call, chances are they'll have you in to monitor. Happened in both my other pregnancies and all was fine
