Gush of vaginal discharge or waters breaking?

I'm 28 weeks and yesterday while rushing around and carrying something heavy at work I felt a gush of liquid between my legs. It felt like loads and I was convinced I was going to be left with a big wet patch on my jeans that everyone could see. But when I went to the toilet it wasn't that much. Then I had the same gushing liquid this morning. There was no blood and it smells just like normal discharge (sorry if TMI!).
I was just wondering if anyone else had experienced this?

Hi there, I've had this occasionally throughout my pregnancy, and regularly from around 28 weeks. It tends to happen when I'm walking briskly and as you describe it feels like loads, but is always a small amount and barely visible on a sanitary pad.

It's just one more of those glamourous pregnancy symptoms..!

I think the best thing to do would be to put a pad in and see if you're still leaking in an hour or so. If you're at all worried, phone the assessment unit or your mw and they'll check you over. x

I had this - still do!

It feels like a huge amount, and you're running around looking for the nearest loo and hoping nobody is walking behind you. And then ... it's barely anything. Happens when I get up too fast, run down stairs, etc.

Like mousebacon said, best to put a pad in, and check it. But if it smells like normal discharge and there isn't much at all, it probably is just discharge.

Same experience her - watery discharge in my case as it happens once a day - usually in morning.

ThatllDoPig · 03/02/2011 11:10

Could it be wee? I leak all the time, if I laugh, sneeze or pick up something heavy.

jellybeans · 03/02/2011 11:21

I would get it checked to be safe. I am sure it is fine but I had a leaking feeling that got progressively worse and my waters had gone, just the forewaters, and I had a serious infection. I was only 20 weeks unfortunately but I wish someone had told me to have it checked and not just say it was normal or wee(a couple of midwives did). It didn't really smell of anything. I really don't want to scare you, I did have other reasons it could have happened as well. But if there are any worries, it doesn't hurt to have it checked, they can tell right away if it is wee/waters etc.

LondonCityGirl · 03/02/2011 11:38

Ok thanks for tips. I'm sure it's probably fine but I called the assessment unit and they told me if it feels like gushing then I should pop in to see them even if it looks like nothing. Not working today so I'm going in now. I'll keep you posted...!

Ive had the same thing, sometimes though its a bit more and ends up running down my leg.

Yes please keep us informed Londoncitygirl.

Im seeing my midwife tomorrow so I shall be asking her then.

LondonCityGirl · 03/02/2011 14:32

Ok so that was a fairly quick hospital visit. They wired me up to the fetal heart and contraction monitor and left me for about 20 minutes. I was almost lulled to sleep by the soothing sound of my baby's strong heart beat, only woken by the occasional times he tried to kick all the monitors off my tummy - sounded and felt like a boxing match! Then a doctor did an internal exam and took some swabs. She said my cervix was still closed and everything looked fine so nothing to worry about. Probably just discharge collecting and rushing down at once. But she did say to come back if I was at all worried about anything else. To be honest I was glad I went in to reassure me and just to have a 20 minute quiet moment with my baby and its heartbeat!

So greenzebra sure you're probably fine but do ask the midwife tomorrow just in case!

Vaginal mucus when heated can actually melt to a liquid!! Very disgusting but true!!!

sh77 · 03/02/2011 17:51

copper great fact of the day Grin how did you come to know that ?

mousebacon · 03/02/2011 19:52

Pleased all is well xx

I had exactly the same thing in my first pregnancy and went into the maternity ward where a heap of doctors, students and midwifes were there with a torch looking up me to see if mine had broken and that's what the doctors told me!!!
Strange and wonderful things stick in my head, not important things!!, lol!!!
