Rh- mother with small placenta bleed at 24 weeks

Hello

Really worried and am hoping for some advice. I'm 25 weeks pregnant with my 2nd baby (the first was a m/c). I'm Rhesus negative. Last week I had a small bleed from the placenta and didn't consider I would need Anti-D in this scenario. I know this was stupid, just didn't think about it.

I'm now well past the 72 hour timeframe for an Anti-D injection. The clinic is giving me an emergency detailed scan tomorrow to find out the full story.

I'm wondering if this has happened to anyone here, and if yes, what was the outcome? I've looked up the results of Rhesus sensitivity online and the babies seem to suffer anaemia, brain damage, jaundice and even stillbirth. Frankly I'm a bit freaked out.

Any words of experience would be gratefully received. So sorry for the long post.

Hi I'm rh- as well. An pregnant with 3rd DC. Think its more likely to effect any future pregnancies. that's what I've always been led to believe anyway. So hopefully your babs is fine. And if baby is rh- as well then it will make no difference at all.

Thanks for the quick reply! Yes, I read it was more likely to affect further pregnancies too, but I also read that it takes a month for antibodies to cross over to the baby and most cases of sensitisation occur during the birth. So most babies are okay. I'm only 25 weeks though so antibodies have more than enough time to reach the baby.... maybe I'm just being really panicky Sad

I am rhsus neg too.I am pretty sure it wont be a problem if the baby is negative. Even if baby is positive it is not guaranteed that any blood will have crossed, and antibodies been made. If they have it would effect a future pg but only if that baby is also positive. I think you can get your blood tested to see if you have made any anti-bodies but I am not certain on all this.

Yes, I had a few tubes of blood taken today to check for antibodies... Thanks so much for the replies. Hoping it all ends up a big fuss about nothing!

Don't know if it helps but I am a rhesus baby and a second child, anti-d injections didn't work for mum but I was/am fine.

Hi there! Happy to report it all worked out fine after blood tests and scans. I'm not sensitised to the baby despite no Anti-D - oh the relief! Maybe the baby is also Rh-.

Thank you so much for calming me down with sensible comments!
