Wrap sling?

Can anyone recommend the cheapest place to buy a good wrap sling like a Moby, Kari Me or sleepy wrap? I'd also be interested in your comments on which sling you've found comfiest for a newborn and most long-lasting as they grow. Thanks!

I like Moby and Kari-Me for a newborn and jsut did a google search to find the cheapest. Sometimes there are second hand ones on ebay and there's a great forum about babywearing: www.naturalmamas.co.uk which has good ideas for carries and also some second hand ones for sale.

I bought a woven wrap (didymos) when my daughter was about 9 months and that has been really comfortable now that she's a stonking 23 lbs! I think the stretchy ones are perfect for when they are tiny and fragile but if you carry beyond 6 months you may eventually need something more supportive for you.

I loved the Kari-me for DS when he was little but did stop using it after about 6 months. Never tried the woven kind but might for DC2 if it makes it easier to deal with DS. I think I paid about £35 for mine off some random website but there are plenty on ebay.

I got a Kari-me for £20 off ebay. Was very comfortable but my Mum told me off for using it so only used it for a couple of weeks while DD was tiny. She is paranoid I would fall over and squash DD.

I got a second hand close carrier off cloth nappy tree

It was about half retail price and in very good condition wiht the DVD and booklet ect

I use a spoc (simple peice of cloth) and various ties I have found on t'interweb.

DS is massive now (nearly one and though I haven't had him weighed in ages he was on 85th )and it is still going strong. And cost about £2. [skint emoticon]

I bought a Kari me new, as they resell really well on eBay

I just bought 5m of jersey fabric from the bargain aisle and cut it in 2 up the width (didn't even bother to hem, it was fine).

I found it was OK when he was very small, as it wrapped him tight to me and supported his head, but as soon as he was a bit less floppy (about a month) I switched to a home made mei-tai which I find far easier to deal with day to day.

The mei tai is less bulky on me, so it's cooler, and fits under my coat, he seems to find it more comfortable (both because he doesn't need to be squeezed to me so tight, and because he can stand up in it rather than be supported by the cloth wrapping round his bum), and it wraps up a lot smaller and more easily (despite the long straps)

Oh, and DP never did get the hang of the wrap, but he's fine tying on the mei-tai

I got a close carrier - I wasn't confident enough tying a wrap myself so the close was good for me. I'm quite small though and have found ds has outgrown it now really at 6 months/17lbs.
