Blimey that was a long old day for you TooTired, you must have been shattered.

Will keep everything crossed for a good result for you tomorrow xxx

taffetasplat · 03/02/2011 22:15

Glad to hear the procedure went well. Fingers crossed for you.

RachelHRD · 03/02/2011 23:15

Only just seen this but just wanted to say I had a detailed scan at the FMC which gave me a 1:2 risk of Downs syndrome for my DD. I then had the CVS with Prof N and got the results within 48 hours.
My DD doesn't have Downs syndrome so there is always hope - even with what seems like impossible odds.
Fingers crossed for you.

RachelHRd - thanks for posting. Your story does give me hope, and though I know that at 1:6, the odds are in my favour, I feel I need to prepare myself for bad news as a means of self-preservation.

FlamingGallah and SH77 - the wait wasn't too bad as I only turned up at FMC just after 7pm. I don't live too far from Harley Street, so I just kept phoning them from home until they told me to go in.

The wait for the results is far far worse.

TooTiredtoGoogle I can totally understand how you feel and I was the same - I had almost accepted that it was going to be bad news and so was completely stunned when it wasn't!

Just remember that the 1:6 is based on statistics and not on your baby specifically.
Thinking of you - keep yourself busy and I really hope it is good news for you. Have they said when you will get the results?

TooTiredtoGoogle · 04/02/2011 09:57

Yes, that's exactly how I feel!
I am clinging on to the fact that my scan was perfect, it was just the bloods that let me down. This baby was created by ICSI and I've been injecting progesterone for a while now ... part of me wonders if this manipulated the bloods a bit, but the doctors are adamant that it has no effect.

Anyway, I won;t go on.
They're going to call DH tonight / late afternoon.

Fingers crossed.

That's a really good sign that there were no soft markers.

Hope the day passes quickly for you. Waiting is the worst bit.

Sparklies · 04/02/2011 10:43

There's several research papers out there showing that IVF babies are more likely to screen positive through bloodwork (think it's the bHCG is higher) than those conceived the "traditional" way, for the record.

Keeping everything crossed for you! Hope you don't have to wait too much longer.

I had CVS with the Prof at the FMC many years ago, I was told that I would get the result on the following Monday (sorry can't remember what day of the week I went).

At 7.30pm on the Friday evening while my DH was bathing dd1 and I was lying down wondering how on earth I was going to get through the weekend - the phone rang. I was very impressed that they took the time to call that late on a Friday. It was a fairly painful phone call as the lady read each result, so it went ' your results for such and such syndrome are negative and results for the next syndrome are negative' and so on. I was fortunate that all was fine.

Still to this day I'm so thankful that someone was thoughtful enough to ring and put us out of our misery for that weekend.

No idea what we would have done if the results had gone the other way - it was a difficult time so I hope the best for you.

RachelHRD · 05/02/2011 10:42

TooTiredtoGoogle have been thinking of you. Hope the results have come through and are OK.

Rach xx

TooTiredtoGoogle · 05/02/2011 13:07

Thanks for thinking of me.
The results were still being processed last night, so we won;t know until Monday now.
DH and I have spent the last two days talking over what we will do whatever way the results go, and I feel relatively calm now ... just a case of waiting another another couple of days.

DH gave me a pep talk about staying positive this weekend, for the sake of our DD, if not for our own sanity.

Sparklies - thanks for that info. It is my BetaHCG that tipped the scales - it was more than 3 times more than the median.

Sorry to hear you are having to wait over the weekend - hope you can keep yourself busy to not sit and think about it too much. I found having my DS helped at the time to keep me busy and focusing on normal stuff.

Your DH sounds very level headed and supportive and it's good that you have already talked over the options once you get the results.

Sparklies · 05/02/2011 22:48

Very sorry you didn't hear by Friday :(

Hope you hear nice and early on Monday morning and the news is good!

taffetasplat · 06/02/2011 20:22

Hope your weekend wasn't too awful and that you get good news tomorrow.

TooTiredtoGoogle · 07/02/2011 13:33

It's good news!
DH just got the call to say there are no abnormalities.

Thank you for all your support. It helped to know that people were thinking of us.

Sparklies - I've read some old threads and know that you are currently awaiting a scan as you decided not to have invasive testing. Just wanted to wish you the best of luck with that.

Oh TooTired - excellent news! So pleased for you! You can relax now and enjoy your pregnancy. A celebration in order, no?

Did you find out the sex? I couldn't resist!

Sparklies - all the best

Sparklies · 07/02/2011 15:36

That's wonderful news - I am so pleased for you!! Nothing like overcoming really bad odds.. okay, so 85% chance everything is fine but it is so easy to convince yourself that you are "the one"!

Thanks for the good luck wishes - currently debating whether to have a "safer" amnio at 32 weeks so we know for sure, but probably won't decide until the day. It'll be at Kings (same doctors as FMC) so I'll talk to the doctors there and find out the risks. If my odds had been like yours (mine were 1 in 34) I'd already have long since been tested!!

FlamingGallah · 07/02/2011 17:17

Oh TooTired what wonderful wwonderful news!! You and DH must be over the moon. Have been checking all weekend for updates (in a non stalker way, obviously!)

We too have been through years of infertility and multiple IVF and it makes the pregnancy extra precious- must have been just awful having this worry on top.

Now you just sit back and enjoy being preggers now!

(until the next thing to google comes along :))

Chynah · 07/02/2011 17:23

So glad to hear everything is OK. Hope you can relax now and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy.

PS: Do you know what flavour you've got?

RachelHRD · 07/02/2011 17:54

Great news - so pleased for you :)

TooTiredtoGoogle · 07/02/2011 19:05

I've been walking around with a smile on my face all afternoon Smile

DH went to FMC to pick up the paperwork and they wrote the gender down for him on a piece of paper and put in a sealed envelope. We'll open it together when DH gets back tonight Grin
