I know people don't mean to be rude, but it does get me down after some of the comments. I am now 39 weeks, and yes, I do have quite a bump now (not suprisingly!).
After the number one 'You are HUGE!', 'Are you sure you're not having twins?' is one of the favourites. However, I can just about cope with both of those as I know that my baby is just the right size according to all the tests, and that I am a healthy weight/size too. I try to remind myself that people just don't really know what else to say and they are trying to show their excitement over my baby which is really a lovely thing.
The comments that are really starting to bug me now though, are: 'Haven't you had that baby yet?' Well, no. As you can see, I still have a large lump on my front, so no, I haven't had the baby yet. Plus, he is not actually due until next week, and could potentially wait another two after that, so we all have to be patient!
Another one is 'What are you still doing here?'. This is a favourite in the playground as I take/collect DD1, and was getting very frequent as I got close to my maternity leave at work. Do I have stop my life completely for the last month or so? Am I not allowed out of my house?
It is not only strangers of course - my DH has refered to me on several occasions as a 'tractor' when I slowly make my way up the stairs and he gets stuck behind me. DD1 now pretends to be a crane as she offers me a hand to stand up. Bless them both, I love them really and they are only joking. I guess that we have to try to remember that!
