Why do people think it's ok to say "You're Huge!!!!"

Argh! Is it just me being over sensitive but I'm really getting tired of people telling me "Wow, you're really showing now!" or "You're much bigger than I was" or "Blimey you're huge, you're going to have a big baby". I'm nearly 34 weeks so yes, I'm going to be "showing" what a ridiculous thing to say, and actually I'm no bigger than you were at this stage!!
The Midwife who is the one person who really has any insight as to how big baby will be is more than happy with my size....I'm measuring bang on where I should be according to my growth chart.
I don't know why this annoys me so much but it's really beginning to grate!
Moan over....for now! Grin

I've been very tolerant with poeple especially with the "You're much bigger than I was at this stage" comment. Just smiled through gritted teeth and laughed it off. I don't know why it bothers me so much. It's not like I'm worried about my size I just think that some comments are best left unsaid.
Glad I'm not the only one though Grin

Ha, I got the 'hi there fatso' comment in work earlier. After reading this post, I was armed with my comebacks, so I replied 'Mmmm, funny I was just thinking the same about you!!' worked a treat! Don't think I'll be getting that again! Although I guess as a disclaimer I should say that I knew my audience in this case!
A woman with 3 kids said 'wow look at the size of you getting!' I was feeling a little more relaxed after my earlier fun so I just replied with a HUGE grin ' I know isn't my bump great, I love my little football!'
I didn't feel compelled to comment on anyones physical appearance of my own accord today! Funny that! ;)

I know people don't mean to be rude, but it does get me down after some of the comments. I am now 39 weeks, and yes, I do have quite a bump now (not suprisingly!).

After the number one 'You are HUGE!', 'Are you sure you're not having twins?' is one of the favourites. However, I can just about cope with both of those as I know that my baby is just the right size according to all the tests, and that I am a healthy weight/size too. I try to remind myself that people just don't really know what else to say and they are trying to show their excitement over my baby which is really a lovely thing.

The comments that are really starting to bug me now though, are: 'Haven't you had that baby yet?' Well, no. As you can see, I still have a large lump on my front, so no, I haven't had the baby yet. Plus, he is not actually due until next week, and could potentially wait another two after that, so we all have to be patient!

Another one is 'What are you still doing here?'. This is a favourite in the playground as I take/collect DD1, and was getting very frequent as I got close to my maternity leave at work. Do I have stop my life completely for the last month or so? Am I not allowed out of my house?

It is not only strangers of course - my DH has refered to me on several occasions as a 'tractor' when I slowly make my way up the stairs and he gets stuck behind me. DD1 now pretends to be a crane as she offers me a hand to stand up. Bless them both, I love them really and they are only joking. I guess that we have to try to remember that!

Same reason people think it's okay to say "so where's this bump then - can't see anything, I need my glasses - you're so skinny". Can't stand the word skinny I would never say to anyone you're so fat!

I like looking pregnancy big as I am big normally. It made my day when a couple followed us to antenatal clinic, although I didn't realise until we all went the wrong way gg Its nice to look pregnant instead of fat.

However. Exception to the rule is MIL. As big as a barage balloon was her last comment. I content myself with the fact she is just jealous, cos at least my plump round face, isn't covered in masses of wrinkles Grin
