Talk about every stage of pregnancy, from early symptoms to preparing for birth.

If I felt sick in previous pregnancies, but not this time, does that mean I'm having a boy this time?

Or can you have different pregnancies and still the same sex?

You can have different pregnancies and still have the same sex.

It's happened to my mother, my sister, my SIL, and my MIL - all of whom had two children of the same gender.

Emkana - Absolutely makes no difference. The sex of the baby only really affects the baby.... its your hormones that make you feel sick.

I felt sick as dog with both pregnancies..... both pregnancies I had baaaaad heartburn, both babies born naturally 5 days early...... but 1st was a boy, 2nd was a girl.

sweetkitty · 11/10/2005 09:36

I've had exactly the same feelings, aches, bump growth, everything with 2 and they are both girls.

BigBumpBonnie · 11/10/2005 09:38

I had terrible sickness first time round, had ds. Had none at all second time, had dd. This time (am 3 days overdue) had the worst sickness ever, assumed it's a boy, but no..am expecting another girl!

tortoiseshell · 11/10/2005 09:53

First time felt pretty sick for about 16 weeks, had ds. Second time felt horribly sick for about 16 weeks, had dd. This time, don't know what am having, but have been both the sickest and the wellest iyswim - have had weeks where am ok, and weeks where I am throwing up every day. So have discounted theories based on sex of baby!

dramaqueen72 · 11/10/2005 09:59

I am always sick. and have had both!! that said my dd's did make me MORE sick than my ds, but i dont think its a very safe rule to go by really
my mother takes great pleasure in telling me how sick i made her, and how my sister didnt make her sick at all. sigh..................

Mummyvicky · 11/10/2005 10:12

ds1 I felt sick until 14 weeks but only threw up 3 times, dd I constantly vomited until 16 weeks, and ds2 it was so severe I needed injections to stop me from vomiting as I lost a stone and was dehydrated. So in my case no its different each time!

Miaou · 11/10/2005 10:18

I've had m/s with all three, progressively worse with each pregnancy, but had two girls then a boy - so no, no link here!

flamebat · 11/10/2005 10:18

I'm convinced that there are way too many factors for bump shape, sickness or anything else to be a pointer in the sex of the baby - it could be anything from the way the baby is laying, your own hormones, your health etc that could effect things like that.

The only one I find vaguely reliable is heartrate, but even then my DD was awkward and kept dropping lots!

bundlebat · 11/10/2005 10:20

I was a lot less nauseous when I had my 2nd daughter and a friend of mine had completely differently shaped bumps (she has 2 boys) so I think it's pretty anecdotal

Miaou · 11/10/2005 10:20

Yes the heartrate thing was a correct marker for me. Also where I was in my cycle when I conceived. That could be just coincidental though - after all, you have a 50% chance of being right!
