Is fainting normal in early pregnancy?

I am nearly 12 weeks pg. Went to see doc last thurs as was having strong pains in left side of stomach.
She said most likely stretching pains and all ok if no bleeding, just rest etc. Go back if start bleeding or pain gets worse.
Pain has eased up but I fainted this morning. Was in kitchen and everything went black, had to lie on kitchen floor and was sweating buckets. Then I went v cold and shivery and could get up again.
Should I go back to docs?
I've got scan appt fri this week.

I fainted quite a bit from around 13wks with dd. I had really low blood pressure (and was anaemic which wasn't helping). No harm in getting checked out.

Have you been eating properly? I found when i was first pregnant, i felt faint a lot and realised i was rusing around with my normal morning schedule, and not eating for an hour osr so after waking up.

Maybe try a sugary snack quite early. but DEF get it checked out with doc again - i'd say today just to make yourself feel a bit better. Smile

I had exactly the same, at around 6 weeks. Pain and fainting. Doc sent me to hospital, spent hours in gynae, then scan the next day, which found that absolutely nothing was wrong!

Apparently if the pain is what is causing the fainting, it can be a danger (they are looking for signs of ectopic), but if the fainting isn't to do with the pain it is likely to be either blood pressure or general pregnancy related.

Good luck. :)

Yes, you definitely need to go to the Doc. Fainting is relatively normal I think - all your blood flow is getting directed round two systems now. Also, the pains are pretty normal too - I had lots of that. However, it's best to get it checked as it's not worth chancing anything.

I agree with cupcakeshay about having something to eat as soon as you get up.

I did this alot on my first pg and on this one I had these black outs (which is what I called the ones were I remained conscious) for a while, and was stood in the doctors surgery when I felt dizzy and feinted. I was out for about 15 minutes and the doctor was trying to talk to me but I couldnt hear I also ended up very bruised and hurt because I fell like a sack of spuds. I am anemic when not pg so get very low iron levels when pg. Go and see your GP in case it gets worse.

I had a terrible time at work nearly fainting whenever I had to present anything. It happened in front of a very big group of people (they thought I was just nervous) and in a meeting with nearly all male managers. It was so embarrassing! But I realised it was a pregnancy thing and probably, as others have said, due to low blood pressure. I got used to explaining to people that I was pregnant and likely to feel faint if I started talking for more than a minute!
