Hey everyone!

I found out today that I'm pregnant and I'm over the moon. It's my first pregnancy and I've got PCOS so wasn't expecting to fall this quick.

Basically, I've not registered with my local doctor untill today, I moved about 6 months ago and haven't been able too till today as you can literally only registered on the third tuesday if it's full moon etc. They've told me that it'll take 10 working days to get my notes and then I'll be offered a general check up appointment within another 10 working days. I explained that I've just found out I'm pregnant and was there anyway I could see the Doctor quicker and they said no.

Is there any other way to go about getting medical advice? I am considering going to the walk-in polyclinic that is a couple of miles away just so I can get an idea of what to do and also, because it makes it seem more official to me Blush

Any advice would be brilliant!

Apologies if I've written things down wrong but I only joined today so I'm a newbie!!

Would I be right in assuming you are only 5 or 6 weeks pregnant? i.e. only missed one period and got you BFP recently?

Most areas you wouldn't see your GP anyway you would just book in to see your midwife for your "booking appointment" which tends to happen at around 10 weeks pregnant.

In all honestly MN has been far more useful for me than my MW through this pregnancy (also my first) for quick advice anyway. When I was 5 weeks I phoned my surgery and they told me they didn't want to see me at all until my booking in appointment. Try to phone to arrange your booking in appointment with the midwife if they don't let you yet waiting 10 days won't make much difference.

As for the lost feeling, and the "oh crap what do I do now" feeling that I had when I first got my BFP, enjoy the start where you feel great and its your own little secret. Make sure you are taking a good pregnancy (not general) multivitamin or at least folic acid and stay away from undercooked meats. Eat healthily and look after yourself. If you have cats now is also a good time to tell your OH to take over the litter tray since you now have an excuse not to do it.

Congratulations :)

congratulations thats great news!!

Re going to the g.p, to be honest they don't do anything apart from take your word for it!! I didn't even make an appt with either the g.p or midiwfe until i was 10 weeks.

In my experience they're not overly interested until about 10 weeks and you go to book in with the midwife to get your 12 week scan. Obviously if you have an ongoing medical condition then you do need to see the g.p as soon as!

I know that you want "official" confirmation but the magic wand with 2 lines is it Grin

Does your health centre/surgery have a midwife attached?

I am currently 20 weeks pg and have never seen my gp. I had to fill in a form and the midwife got in touch with a date for my first/booking appointment (usually between 8-10 weeks).

Or tell them it's an emergency Wink

Congratulations on your news, that's fantastic Smile

Yep unfortunately the first few weeks can seem like an eternity when you're completely over the moon about your pregnancy and just want to get it 'confirmed' by a medical in order to get things rolling! I remember being upset at having to wait 2 whole weeks for my first appointment - my local surgery asked me for a urine sample which they sent to the local hospital for confirmation of a BFP. I then saw a Midwife for a general appointment at about 7 weeks (which I now understand to be quite early), then a proper booking appointment at 9 weeks (lots of paperwork, taking of bloods etc.) then my first scan didn't happen until 14 weeks.

The first few months, let alone the first few weeks, seem to drag by, especially if you're not really showing and it seems an absolute age until your next appointment. Let Mumsnet be your friend, read as much helpful information as you can (I haven't been told anything by a midwife yet that I haven't learned on here first - sad but true!) and in between appointments come on here and ask anything, have a rant and revel in your pregnancy with others in the same position as you.

Obviously the midwives are there for medical support if you need it, but for moral support (and lots of entertainment at times) I've found MN invaluable!

Hey hun I was same situation as you and moved and never registered so had to do it when I found out I was pregnant. Luckly nothing much happens in first few weeks but once u hand ur form in they cannot refuse to see you if you say its a emergency but just make a appointment as soon as they say they have your old records.
Some doctors as well don't need to see you they just ask you to make a appointment with midwife so that might be worth checking out and seeing if you can get her number.

And congratulation :)
