Second pregnancy confirmed 5 months after CS delivered first baby

Help,

I've just found out I'm pregnant again. First baby is only 5 months old. We want this child (conception this time was a LOT quicker) but I had a cs the first time around. I'm worried about the implications for my stomache. The scar is still red and itchy and sensative. Am I being melodramatic to worry about it splitting as my bump grows? And will I have to have another cs?

Any advice gratefully received.

I'm in the same boat except my EMCS was only 16 almost 17 weeks ago and I am almost 6 weeks pregnant.

I was tolf by GP it is very very very rare for uterine rupture during pregnancy it is labour that it poses a risk, but they will discuss everything with me at my consultant appointment.

Congratualtions :)

Congratulations Smile

I've known people who have have got pg 4 weeks after a CS and all was fine with their scar and uterus.

The risk of placental abruption during labour (after a previous CS) is quite low, however I don't know if it makes any difference depending on how old the scar is. Maybe it is worth speaking to your MW about it.

I had a vaginal birth after an emerg. cs, if you are interested in having a vaginal birth, read up on VBAC's.

Congratulations to you too. Although I am in awe at your 6 weeks preggers at 17 weeks after EMCS (if it's not too rude of me to comment).

Let me know what your GP says. I'm in Denmark and wonder if my language skills will be up to discussing uterine ruptures! Off to Google Translate I go.......

Should have said, that I may not be offered the option of a VB due to stupidly small gap I have left, but she did say it depends on the consultant.

Not too rude at all, I have been very stupid but can't turn back the clock now. I blame Christmas entirely. I will let you know when I speak to my midwife (22nd of Feb) she might give me more information. Sorry couldn't be more helpful I am stuck with lots of questions and no answers yet myself.

Thank you Nunnie and Iliketomoveitmoveit for your replies. Nunnie I look forward to hearing what your midwife says on 22 Feb. I'll let you know what the Danish wisdom is as well once I have an appointment.

I had an emcs recently too and would like to get pregnant in the next few months so i'm interested to hear what the consultant suggests.. i'll hopefully have a 4-5 month gap..

Congratulations! I had a EMCS with DC2, she was born at 28 weeks. I got pregnant straight away with DC3. My scar had (obviously) not even healed properly when I got pregnant. He was delivered by EMCS at 30 weeks, 9 months after his sister.

This wasn't due to uterine rupture, but I think the scar was showing signs that it wasn't coping too well with the weight of DC3.

As you get further along, trust your instincts. Never feel like you are being melodramatic, it is always better to get checked out.

Congrats to those of you expecting, as everyone has said it should all be fine & I'm sure it will be. I had a 10month gap between elcs (breech) and 2nd pregnancy but suffered from placenta previa & ended up in hospital for 9 weeks! This is a reasonably common complication of a small gap (more so than uterine rupture) but it generally turns out alright although very often necessitates a second section. HappyGirl1 if you are thinking about a small gap please see a gp to discuss possible complications first, it never occurred to me to do this, but I wish I had known more about pp before I got it! Best wishes to all.

My ds was 6 mnths old after an emergency CS when i fell pg with dd. She was a planned CS because she was back to back, breech, I had SPD and because of the fact I'd had an emergancy CS 15 months before - they said when tehy cut me ope that the first scar hadn't properly healed from ds' birth Shock but it was fine and I recovered really quickly after having dd. At first I was a bit tearful cos I'd been denied a 'natural' birth but I can honestly say that 7 and 8 years later I don't really care what kind of birth they had!! It stops being important emotionally very quickly as long as the baby is healthy and all that Grin. Good luck, it is tough going for the first few years but much easier after that!
Just remember to try and rest asmuch as possible as pg is much more tiring second time round with a baby in tow Grin!
