Any tips gratefully received. I'm 36 weeks and it's constant, including overnight so keeping me awake! Thank you!!

This thread has prompted me to get an appt with my GP today to discuss a) my heartburn/acid and b) this rotten cold that's moving into my chest and making me feel very rough indeed. They gave me an appointment today since I am 22 wks and haven't had the flu jab.

Don't suffer needlessly - see if there's anything the GP can prescribe.

Peptac is the only thing that works for me but it does work..not unlike gaviscon but think it may be little stronger as gaviscon didn't work for me. Its horrible when you have acid :(

Gaviscon makes me hurl - Rennie Soft Chews work on medium days for me (and taste like Mint Toffos, mmm) - on worse days I take a Zantac (Ranitidine). It's miserable! But it does go as soon as you have the baby. I remember so enjoying a glass of orange juice!

i use rennies and always a glass of cold milk does the trick for me - i always imagine it just coats your throat!!

No further advice but just wanted to add that mine was terrible in labour itself and I hadn't expected that somehow. It was probably the worst part of it! I don't remember telling anyone and didn't have any antacids with me. Maybe worth mentioning to the midwife when you get started!

Well - saw a GP yesterday (not my usual one, as was same day appt) & he refused to prescribe me omeprazole. Just goes to show it really depends on who you see. He would only give me gaviscon on scrip - bizarrely, the dispensary gave me half of an open bottle. Is that standard practice? Hmm

ThatllDoPig · 29/01/2011 13:54

Are you serious heels? That disgusting, someone could have gobbed in it, or tampered with it. You should never have medicines that aren't sealed properly etc. I hope you complained.

Chynah · 29/01/2011 22:20

Heels - thats dreadful! My GP gave me omeprazole and the monitoring unit at my hospital gave me Lansaprazole (sp?). Gaviscon didn't my acid and I was unable to eat and coughing til I threw up so lost quite a bit of weight - was my midwife who told me to go to GP and get something!

PavlovtheCat · 29/01/2011 22:29

nomoreheels - that is shocking ! both, the gaviscon being open and also your gp not giving medication to help. It is so hit and miss with Docs isn't it?

It was the only thing that helped me.

nomoreheels · 29/01/2011 22:44

My DP reckons they decanted the other half into a plain bottle for someone else, but still - they could have explained! They did decant simple linctus into brown glass bottles so maybe he's right. I didn't see it til I got home though. :(

I'll go to see my usual gp next week if it doesn't ease up, he's a lot more open-minded.
