Scan to check baby's position at 36 weeks

I am booked for a scan next Friday to check the baby's position as the mw can't be sure it's not breech.

The letter says to attend with an uncomfortably full bladder Hmm. Is this just a standard scan letter? Do I really need to be full to burst at this late stage? I really can't hold my wee atm Blush!

i had a scan at 37 weeks for same reason and didnt need a full bladder.dont worry if you dont..in fact i think its just a standard thing they still say when sending out these appointments. If they ask just say yes!tho unlikely to ask. Good luck

I had scan to make sure baby had shifted and placenta had moved, two weeks ago. No mention of full bladder or any kind of bladder!! Good luck

Thanks for the replies - phew I had visions of lieing there sweating, biting my lip and trying not to wet myself!! Fingers crossed bubs is head down as I really want a homebirth Smile. Baby is back to back so all the mw can feel is limbs but can't tell which are which!

Were both of your scans okay?

They have water to drink outside. If you have a big drink when you arrive I think it will be enough.
I took them so literally that I almost fainted with the discomfort and then they said the bladder was TOO FULL and I had to go and try to HALF empty it. Aargh!

SleepWhenImDead · 27/01/2011 20:06

That's bullshit, why should it matter about your bladder? They can easily tell if breech! Good luck with turning if he/she is!

SleepWhenImDead · 27/01/2011 20:07

ps DS1 was breech and they never mentioned this when scanning

Had a scan for the same reason at 36 weeks - no full bladder required. I suspect it's a form letter not properly amended, as iirc you only really need a full bladder at the 12 week scan. I'd phone and check.

fwiw, he'd flipped into the right position, and it took all of 5 seconds for them to see it on the scan.

I had this scan a couple of weeks ago and there was no mention of a full bladder. Makes no difference to them telling if the baby is breech or not. Hope yours isn't! My MW wasn't sure and neither was the consultant. Turns out she is. ECV failed and she turned on Tuesday, then turned back again. Now I'm having an ELCS unless she decides to turn again. Grrrr.

I had a scan at 37 weeks and all they said was don't need a full bladder but try not to have a wee on the morning of scan, luckily my scan was at 8.20 and I think I did wee but no probs and baby was head down
