Help! – Cannot control my weight gain

Hello! Am looking for some advice / reassurance.

I am naturally very small, 5?0 and non-PG weight is normally 106kgs, so a size 8.
With DD, I was very naughty and ate (read gorged!) on whatever I fancied and ended up putting on 40kg in that pregnancy!
Ended up a size 14/16 post pregnancy and luckily through healthy eating, managed (struggled) to shed the weight over the next year after DD was born.

Am now 19 weeks pregnant with DC2 and have been sooo good this PG, have even stopped the odd choc / soft drink that I would have normally had pre-PG.
However I am still gaining a ridiculous amount of weight very quickly.
I know you should on average put on 25-30kg throughout the PG, and I really wanted to stay within that range. However I have already put on 12kg, and if I carry on at this rate (am averaging 1.5kg over the last few weeks ? rather than the recommended 0.9kg), I will put on 40kg again!

I don't know what to do, I would understand it if I was eating badly but as I say, I'm eating really well and making a real effort.
My best friend is getting married in May and I desperately wanted to look ?nice? for the wedding rather than a blob like last time!
What am I doing wrong? Has anyone any advice on this? I'm sorry if this sounds petty however it really is starting to get me down!

Many thanks in advance

Firstly get checked for gestational diabetes, it may be that you're hungry because of poor blood sugar control. So you are eating what your body needs but because your insulin levels are all over the place some of it gets stored as fat. That's what has happened to me, anyway.

Other than that try switching to lower fat and higher fibre options and snack on fruit but don't try to diet.

Other than that I think it may be something you have to accept. It happened in your last pg so maybe that's just one of the ways your body deals with growing a LO. It wasn't easy but you know you can lose the weight afterwards because you did before. Also some people put on loads inthe second trimester and then hardly any in the third.

I don't think you mean kilos! Smile

I wouldn't worry too much, if you mean lb rather than kg, I think you are pretty much on track. And this is the time you gain the most weight. The weight gain should slow down and taper off in the third trimester.

And if you are being sensible the weight will be good weight - just baby and support system, so don't fret too much! But if you are really concerned your midwife should be able to refer you to a dietician for advice.

I don't think you should worry too much - if you are eating well and healthily then you probably need to accept that this is what your body needs to do for you and the baby to be healthy (and you were very small to begin with).

I worried too about gaining weight (which I do when pregnant) and I eat very, very healthily and my midwife actually told me I wasn't eating enough and that she wasn't worried about the gain.

sorry do you mean pounds? i cannot imagine how you possibley could put on 40kg if you were 106kg to begin with... i do not mean to be rude at all. i am 26 weeks and have put on 6 kg (pre-preg weight was 53kg) and i am very worried that it is piling up too quickly. i eat very healthy, but it just started to pile up after 19 weeks. i cannot imagine how difficult it must be to carry extra 40kg around... how about setting a few simple rules aka not eating late at night (or snacking on veggies and plain yogurt), reducing intake of sugary foods and processed foods, cutting out junk food and sodas? btw, did they check out your thyroid -- this could be a cause for potential weight gain... i take kelp to keep thyroid function under control (dried seaweed), but i did have problems in the past... i find it is helpful to keep a diary with caloric counts of foods you eat. i try not to eat more than 2000-2100 calories per day (i ate about 1400-1500 pre-pregnancy, and maybe that's why the weight is piling up now)... good luck!
