Blood pressure problems in first trimester?

I am six weeks today and had a book in app with my GP. My BP was 128/99, and I am now signed up for a barrage of blood/urine/BP tests over the next week to determine if I need medication.........

BP was fine before conception, GP was monitoring me in general as TTC was taking ages and we were beginning to look at other options.

Has (is) anyone else in the same boat? x

I am on meds, but mine was high before I fell pregnant. Just suddenly started. Try not to worry about it, it could go down. Tbh they usually monitor you over a few weeks of it being high before they start tests etc, I think its usually if its high for something like 3 visits.
Watch your salt levels, switch to decaf, drink plenty of water and try and have regular exercise. It could help x

Hi Chelstonmum- i have had blood pressure issues throughout my pregnancy - i am now 17 weeks. Last week my blood pressure was 144/100 , and i was started on one aspirin a day.

Went back for BP profile check today and the readings were better - 131/77, so they are keeping an eye on me.

Try not to worry, they will keep a close eye on you and if you did need meds then they are safe during pregnancy anyway

Take it EASY ! rest up and enjoy being pregnant x

Thanks tlise and mummysweeangel, I have been trying to relax (easier said) and have looked at my salt (not a really bad habbit, but can be a bit ott) other than that I walk daily, drink decaf and so much water im considering setting up camp in the loo to save me time :)

Hope you are both relaxing too, when are you due? x

Lol! Well it sounds like you are on the right track and tbh sometimes nothing you do causes it. It just happens. And as op said, meds are fine. They started me on mine before I was pregnant as I told them we were trying, so we didn't need to switch. Only side effects I have had are puffy ankles if feet are down, and breathlessness. Its not for very long though, just annoying as now I can't multi task, ie : breathe and walk at the same time lol so no choice but to take it easy.

I have to take an aspirin a day as well, so you may have to, but its only a low dose. They are just following guidelines. On the plus side as well if they do decide you have high bp, you should get a growth scan at 28 weeks ;)

And interesting to note as well, I didn't know until this week, high bp isn't so bad as long as its managed and constant. Apparantly the baby calibrates the blood flow to the placenta depending on your bp. If its up and down, it causes more problems than if its the same level. (hence the growth scan) She said they weren't so worried about it being higher as long as its stable. Obviously not too high, but mine is staying around 140/80 or 90 so as long as it stays there they are happy.

I have 11 weeks to go tommorrow. Due 15th April. It has flown! It will soon go for you as well, especially if you have extra appointments.
xx
